...The second trade was a lot bigger, with the Senators trading Milan Michalek and prospect Jakub Culek to the Phoenix Coyotes in return for Brandon Gormley and Phoenix's 2013 2nd round pick...

:coyotes confirm. Michalek fills that top-6 scoring role we've been looking to fill. He'll help us go deep into the playoffs this season and is under contract for next year as well.

Culek's a kid we've always liked. He plays our style of game and he'll have some good mentors in fellow countrymen Martin Hanzal, Milan Michalek, and Radim Vrbata.

The Blues have made a trade for top-4 defenseman Tom Gilbert from the Minnesota Wild. We are very excited to add a player of Tom's caliber to our back-end and feel he helps solidify our defense moving forward. He is a capable puck-mover and fits in with our core.

Prospects not named Huberdeau and Bjugstad are definitely in play. Looking for top 6 centre, top 6 right wing, top 4 d-man and a 3rd line centre. Theodore/Clemmensen also available.

:wild confirm. We needed some more room under the cap and Gilbert was becoming an expensive bottom-pairing d-man for us.

Fowards:

Travis Zajac - Big size top 2 center
Patrick Elias - Top line winger with lots of experience
David Clarkson - Gritty, playoff warrior winger
Dainus Zubrus - Can play any line and role, highly usefull veteran

Defenceman:

Henrik Tallinder - Underrated top pairing shut down defenceman
Bryce Salvador - Great veteran shut down top 4 defenceman
Andy Greene - Solid steady 2 way all around top 4, underrated D-man
Marek Zidlicky - Puck moving defenceman with lots of experience

Goalie:

Martin Brodeur - Unlikely to trade but top contending team could interest

Mostly looking for fowards (young roster player or prospect) but if you 're interested in one of our defenceman, then we can be interested in defenceman aswell. Draft picks are always welcome.

San Jose GM here for the next hour or so.

Dan Boyle and Patrick Marleau getting lots of interest. These are two top-tier players in their positions. Joe Thornton likely will not be moved, but we will consider all offers.

Clowe, Havlat, Handzus, Niemi and Murray are all available for teams readying for a playoff push.

See above ^^^

WAIVER ALERT: Chicago Blackhawks have waived Steve Montador

I just want to make sure you saw this

NEW CBA RULE EXPLANATION!

So recently a new CBA rule was announced to the public.

Any 1 way contract worth more than 900k per season that is sent to the AHL will penalize your team's salary cap.

A popular example: Wade Redden.
He makes $6.5 mil per year on a 1 way contract. The Rangers have him in the AHL.
Since he is making more than 900k, his cap hit partially counts towards the Rangers salary cap.
$6.5 mil - 900k = $5.6 mil cap hit against the Rangers.

It is shown on capgeek as well: http://capgeek.com/rangers/ (look under buyouts)

Also, re-entry waivers are gone!

Edit: And we're not trading cap space/salary this game, because I have yet to fully understand how that will work in the NHL.

And you should know that Olesz still counts against the cap if you have him in the AHL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I keep them in the NHL aren't there contracts pro-rated? Waivers doesn't necessarily mean he's going to the AHL either.

We are using full season cap hits for player movement.
If you keep Olesz in the NHL, his cap hit is $3,125,000. If you keep him in the AHL, it's a $2,225,000 cap hit that counts toward your salary cap.

And yeah, I know it doesn't mean he'll be sent to the AHL, just making sure you know, it's a new rule.
