The Toronto Maple Leafs made a splash in free agency today, signing talented offensive winger Simon Gagne to a 4 year, 20M$ contract.

"Adding Simon gives us another legitimate top 3 forward, and one of the most talented offensive players in the game today." Leafs GM TribalPhoenix stated in a press conference at the Air Canada Centre this evening.

The PHOENIX COYOTES are pleased to welcome Center Tomas Fleischmann and Defenseman Mark Stuart to the Valley.

Fleischmann, 26, signed a 3 year, $10M deal. He joins fellow Czechs Radim Vrbata and Martin Hanzal, and is penciled in to center the Coyotes 2nd line with wingers Ray Whitney and Shane Doan playing alongside him. Tomas is a great setup man who should flousrish with veterans Whitney and Doan on his wings. He's also versatile with the ability to line up at any forward position. That was a key in his signing. He'll also see time on the top power play units.

Stuart, also 26, agreed to a 3-year deal that will pay him $3.5M per year. The Coyotes entered free agency with Stuart as their top target to replace Ed Jovanovski, who left via free agency. While Stuart won't be called on to provide the offense of Jovo, the young veteran blueliner will bring a strong defensive-minded game to the Coyotes top-four. Stuart is expected to play alongside one of former teammate Derek Morris, Keith Yandle or Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Heading into 2011-12 the Coyotes expect to line up like this:

Pens fill their needs

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed a duo of skilled, veteran top-6 wingers, which was clearly our biggest need going into the season. The terms:

Matt Bradley: 3 years, $1.5 million, $500,000/year

Also signed Jason Strudwick to be our #7 guy who is a more than adequate replacement in case injuries hit to the following contract:

The deal is a 3 year, 10.5 million(3.5 million per) dollar deal.
