I thought about suggesting this a while back, but I figure now that I've got some power I'll take an executive action or two. ;)

Original introductions thread HERE

The old thread is 3 years old, so I think it's time for some re-introductions. Some of us have moved on, some are fresh off the boat, and I'm sure some of us have changed a little bit over the course of a few years. So, even if you posted in the old thread, go ahead and post again here. You can just copy and paste your post from the old thread if you want. If you want to be a spoilsport, that is. If you can think of any other questions that would be good, I will add them.

OK. Before this season started I identified myself as
Mate, you lost me at "identified". I never understood that new phrase. What does it mean?

Symphatise with? Understanding as similar?

Edit: this is me being a regular loudmouth. Sorry.

But what does Kidderminster even mean?

Well the second half is fairly easy to deduce. Minster is another word for church or monastery, like Westminster.

As far as Kidder, I really have no idea, and no idea of how to even start. Maybe there was a minister at the minster whose last name was Kidd (or whatever the Middle English equivalent was)? Maybe there was a large goat farm nearby (in English baby goats are called kids)? According to wikipedia it was also been called Chedeminstre, Kedeleministre, Kideministre, and Kidereministre over the years before they settled on Kidderminster. If you can make any guesses as to what those might refer to, let us know, cause I got nothing.

I like your thinking and I want to find the Kirschpill connection. Rest assured I will connect these etymological dots, given time.

Kidder doesn't really sound like Celtic, does it?

In Britain over say 500 to 1500 BC you could have that, the Romans, the Saxons, the French (damn they beat us again today didn't they!), the moderate Anglians again, and what would we be speaking then?

Ha, yeah.

By "I don't watch a lot of TV" I mean that if you guys start discussing something currently on, I'm gonna be totally lost.
xcatly like it's up here, so don't feelbad.

I keep looking for reasons to turn the telly on, and increasingly I'm failing. Thank gods we have "public broadcast" channels in the mix but even they are faltering in this day and age. So, yeah.

(I should say I'm midfield politically. I love our Marin's policies, for what they are, and for what they are not despite the coverage, and for what she does despite the coverage. It's telling that Financial Times of all papers had a better piece on her in the EU NG arm wrestling contest than any Finnish media during the year.)

Howdy, all.

Missed the old Hurricanes board, and I see some familiar names/faces like Lake, Hag, OBXer, etc. Hoping all of you are well.

Kind of a rocky year or two here, but I think I'm coming out the good end of the tunnel. :)

Come on in, the waters warm! You missed coastal (same avatar, different user name), and I have suspicions about htdoc based on the length of several of his posts, lol.

I don't recognize JustJonK; what was your user name on the old board?

If I remember correctly, I was something like JonKerfoot "over there", because someone asked me once if I am related to NHL player Alex Kerfoot (not sure, but probably just distantly; the name isn't all that common).

So, it was one of those days, early Spring I think. I'm not sure of the year, probably 1992? Boy did the Internet look diffferent back then. I vaguely remember a potshot collection of hobby sites. Then comes this change into a global shopping mall. Then this, social media and all. Whee.

I've figured myself as "savvy", assembling my own desktops since the Matrox G400, which was finally pretty with the Diamondtron tube I could afford to go with it -- no Sony Trinitron but the cheaper Mitsubishi Diamondtron -- and the Athlon 750 I got over the magic gig milestone because it was that good. (It was one of those AMD had then to underclock for the market, 850 packaged for 750, but it got me hooked for good when I dared open that package. Oi did a few resistors fly when the screwdriver slipped. No matter.)

Fast forward a few years.

I been an Apple phone user for a few years. Just happened.

Last year, I got an Android phone. I've now been using it for several months for everything.

I also play drums and a pretty good jazz bass in a pinch.

Don't get to know me because I absolutely hate and loathe Android. I cannot imagine the group of drunken mokeys that designed it. For a globally leading phone OS, it is an absolute crock of shit. It's imaginatively bad, and unimaginatively void of good design. It's designed by engineers. It's designed by engineers who watch whattsit game of trhones or WWE and think it's user feedback.

I'll never let go of this phone. I want to remember just how bad products can get when nobody listens.

Um, yeah, that's it.

I like ice fishing too. I'm otherwise a moderate Social Democrat.

I guess that about wraps it up.

I can say it's not designed by engineers who hang out at Eng-Tips.

I once had a question related to an engine related inquiry I had. The maintenance told me to f' off. But anyway. The guy who clarified it for me had worked for NASA, the other guy had designed intakes for GM and Caterpillar. Sheesh.

You find if you seek.

So I guess that was a three part that wraps it up thing. In closing, I wish all a Merry Christmas!

Perhaps a long way to intro myself but I can still see those little components flying when the flathead screwdriver didn't intend to do that. Help me.

I know I was a bit tipsy-tipsy posting, but I still love resources like eng-tips when you don't just trust the telly for what you see. ugh.

Don't get me started, the wee flatheads have their uses, but everything else should be Torx.

The problem? Torx 25, 27, and whatnot. You never have the bits and screws you need. Just never. Add Pozi and Phillips in the mix. Total chaos. Should have been just Torx 10 for small stuff, 20 for all humanity, then 30 for big stuff like piers.

So sometimes it's not just your fault.
