THIS DATE IN FLYERS' HISTORY: November 29, 1988
zezel_insideimage.jpg

In a move done in part to shake up the slumping Flyers, the popular Peter Zezel was traded to the St. Louis Blues for Mike Bullard. "We had to get more speed and we had to get more scoring up front,'' said Flyers' GM Bob Clarke. Zezel departed amid tears and many Flyers' fans were disappointed in the trade. Bullard scored in five of his first seven games with the Flyers. The swap paid immediate dividends as the Flyers went 13-2-1 in the next 16 games. Prior to the trade, the Flyers won just once in 10 games.

No more pics/video of the old days when we were the bullies.

This new fanbase would rather us adopt the way of the broad street pansies.

That way when we show no heart and remain a neutered shell of our former selves, the same fanbase can moan and whine when we get railroaded.

Kreider won't be playing tomorrow for the Rangers. Found out his grandfather died after the game. They recalled J.T. Miller so he'll probably slot in for Kreider on that line.

I'm impressed that you can use the internet from back in the 1970's. Unfortunately your time traveling internet hasn't let you watch any hockey since then since you clearly don't know that the game has changed and if teams don't change too then they're going to be left behind.

Notice how the Flyers were left behind? Took them too long to realize that slow and unskilled Dmen like Grossmann are outdated, that skating is important all over the lineup, and that players like Rinaldo and Rosehill aren't worth the penalties they force you to be stuck with.

But nah, you're right, the only way a player can show heart is by fighting. We need a team full of Rinaldo's and Rosehill's, their heart would make up for their lack of skill and brains... at least until the entire team is in the box, but hey then Emery can fight (since that obviously turned around the whole season last year).

Who will be scratched that isn't on the list shown?

Will they finally scratch Rinaldo? I hope. How about the entire Lecavalier line!
This Flyers squad is pathetic, I'm glad that I'll be working during game time.

Back to back against the Rangers @ MSG coming off a disastrous shutout loss, I'll be surprised if they manage to score a goal this time!

They are always struggling against this opponent even when playing up to their potential. Now the wheels are coming off and the Rangers won't show any mercy.

I would scratch Vinny, Umberger, Coburn and McDonald and replace them with Blair Jones, VandeVelde, Schenn and Alt. Put Jones on the 3rd and VV on the 4th. Or hell even call up Rosehill for the 4th line. Maybe he'll get pissed when they lose. Doesn't seem like anybody else in the lineup has a problem with all this losing.

Rinaldo is one of the few guys that skates and fore checks hard on every shift. Why do you think the Flyers gave him an extension? This is the kind of effort team Hextall wants to build.

Laughton has really been working his tail off too! This kid has all the tools and everybody I've talked to thinks he can become a captain someday. Not sure what his ceiling is but I would think 2nd line C. Right now though, I'd probably through him up on that first line with Jake and G - see what he can do.

Speed is the Flyers biggest problem. They cannot create separation past the 1st line for good scoring chances. That's why we have such problems with the Rangers because they are extremely well conditioned and are great skaters.

1 win in the last 8. :shakehead

Going to be one of the few games I miss, heading round to my friends house for the evening. Was annoyed at first I had planned this when a game was one... but not so annoyed after watching last game.

That being said I bet they win since I am not watching.

So what happens after this loss? I'm disgusted.
The team has been yelled at by the fans, by Berube, by Hextall, and they've yelled at each other. The only thing left is for Snider to come down to the locker room and smack some of these fools around.

I fully believe that if Nash, MSL, Kreider, Boyle, McDonut, Staal were all out of the lineup, we would still lose. This team has our number and it's so stupid if you think about it. How the hell do you not make changes to your game plan when you play the Rangers? Berube is a dumbass.

Need some patience too.

Flyers have 1 scoring line, 1 QoC squish counter line (Couts line), 1 new line (Laughton line), and 1 checking line.

If the scoring line can't score, and the 1 new line isn't clicking yet -- can't expect to win games.

PP1 is good.
PP2 is trash. We only get 1-1:20 minutes of PP time per PP.
