Guessing Gawanke wanted a shot somewhere else. So we just replaced him with an AHLer.

Oh nevermind Gawanke just signed a 4 year deal with Adler Mannheim in May so we are just moving his rights for a player we can use with the Moose.

They bought a year of waiver eligibility here. A former second round pick with solid AHL numbers. No idea about him but makes sense in terms of control.

Yeah and Gawanke just signed a 4 year deal in the DEL in May so unlikely he's planning on returning to NA anytime soon.

Come what may, this trade is a welcome one for both parties. The bridge was thoroughly burned to a crisp, so it's better for Gawanke to get a fresh start and for us to get a younger prospect for him.

Now, it's up to the organisation to not repeat the same mistake again with other prospects.

For a draft and develop team, we're not developing a lot of guys lately
im glad im not the only one noticing this over the past couple years

since the highly regarded 2015 nhl draft it's been a bit dry. from 2016-2019 drafts (not sure if it's to early to include 2020-2022 drafts as some players are still developing etc.):

the Jets have 9 draft picks make the nhl for 930 nhl gp. this does include 156 gp from Laine w/ CBJ, and 77 gp of Kovacevic w/ MTL, and Nathan Smith's 14 gp w/ Arizona.

that 930gp number ranks 25/30 teams.
league average per team during this time frame: 1188 gp
(excluding Vegas/SEA as well).

I don't think the Jets drafting got worse. It's that their picks got worse when the team got better. It's a lot easier to graduate guys picked from 1-15 than guys picked from 15-30.

definitely agree with that. which is why i've usually erred on the side of caution on labeling them a top draft/develop team.

& if that's the argument, as you said their picks used to be way better and easier to graduate good players, you can't really conclude it the other way either.

from 2016-2019: Jets average 1st pick of the draft is 26.5 (t-21st in the NHL; 2018 weighs this down quite a bit)
from 2011-2015: Jets average 1st pick of the draft is 11 (6th)

like when folks talk about their 1st round it's usually fueled off the strength off picks of players when they were picking in non-PO years. but from pick 16 onward in the 1st it's been KC, Roslovic, Stanley, Heinola, Ves.....KC and a whole lotta meh, which is probably to be expected/right around average. And it's not like they've been lights-out in rounds beyond the 1st either.

i just think they're an average draft/develop team, where they need to be much better given not a marquee FA or trade destination.
