And if Gelinas learns to play solid defense...and there have been some good signs...oh my god will this defense be spectacular.

Pretty much a perfect game by everyone involved, first time they've scored this many goals to start since the 07-08 season.

I like the way the team is playing. A fewmyoung defencemen right now are showing lou and pete that they made the right choices. I firmly beleive that if larsson played in both games we would be talkingabouthis solid play as well.
they have to keep up the good habits.

I've been saying the Flyers suck all preseason BUT all experts have been calling them a playoff team and ahead of us. Just saying.

Sharks are a real test but I'm not putting any East team on any pedistal right now.

Outside of the dumb penalties just lots to like tonight. Zids goal was nice ( not sure if Camm got a piece but it was still a bullet) and I liked the work Ryder did on Clowe's goal.

I'm definitely nothing a real difference in Ryder's game and I hope it keeps up.

Not enough can be said about these kids on D. Jim is right if Gely's overall game truly evens out holy crap the defense we will be icing.

You can see the tweaks in the offensive game too. Pete knows he has legit passing and shooting at the point this year and the forwards are really feasting and taking advantage of the puck funneling in.

You can just see it. This is a better offensive team then what we iced last year and not just because the puck is going in.

All that mattered to me was this :

Devils win.

(it was nice to have a relative LAUGHER for a change, though)

On to the next game where I'm sure that BleedRed is attempting to get tickets to in Tampa. He probably thinks he's good luck or something. :sarcasm:

The Cammalleri and Havlat additions have really balanced out the lines. Were a much deeper squad than we were last season. We can roll 3 solid lines out at anytime and if we can get the 4th line straightened out and cut the dumb penalties then we should be able to roll 4 lines every night. That would give us the luxury of limiting older guys like Jagr and Elias' minutes on a nightly basis. I really want to find a way to get Brunner and Josefson in somehow. That would make us even deeper. I don't know how much longer the Tootoo experiment will last.

Definitely agreed. Plus guys like Ruutu and Brunner give us some injury insurance too. Not to mention Boucher and Matteu waiting in Albany.

After the penalty box march I am definitely down to try something else on the 4th line. I would be happy with Brunner over Tootoo and thrilled to give JJ a shot as well.

If Deboer is serious about the best 23 playing, that absolutely has to be something considered at practice over the next few days.

Tootoo has been nothing but PIMs so far.

Missed this one but just checked the stats, looks great and Sevs killing it huh. Always knew he'd be huge. I see the 4th line is providing plenty PK practice though :P

It may take a loss for Pete to make any changes, but they really should try a 4th line of Ruutu-Josefson-Brunner.

Would love to see that. Tampa isn't too goony, right? (Don't know their team this season.)

Pete can rightfully look for fewer penalties from the 4th liners, so a change would make sense.

Think that D group probably sticks together until a loss, though, for sure.

Never been more disappointed to miss a Devils game than last night. Looked like it was a great one, but I really wanted to see Severson's first point and, then his first goal. I've been an advocate of letting Severson play this year in the AHL but wow does it ever seem like he belongs here. Two games, I know and against weaker competition, but still exciting to see him prosper.

Good to see that there was no blown lead last night. I looked on my phone and saw 3-0 and thought that lead would be gone in a matter of minutes

And if I remember correctly, that was one of our worst offensive seasons in recent memory. Marty literally carried the team on his back.

The only thing they failed to do last night was get the shutout...mainly because they took way too many penalties. So there are areas that need cleaning up.

I think getting to face a couple of inferior teams to start the season is going to go a long way.
It was so important for the devils to vet out of the gate strong and they did just that. Next few games will tell us much more about what this team really is.

But there is so much promise right now.

So happy our "strong suit" as an organization is starting to manifest at the NHL level...the hype becoming reality. LOVE IT!!!

Last night for the first time in a long while I felt like I was watching my Devils again.

Not gooney but they are filled with big fast skating players. The new additions of Boyle, Callahan and Morrow are probably the "gooniest". Tampa has implemented a much tighter D system this year, so we will see how this looks on Tuesday.
