I succumbed to HS the other night and the picture quality to my TV via laptop and HDMI cable was tremendous.
My TV said picture quality was 1080p. Who am I to argue?
No lag, no pixelating. Nothing. Just a perfect picture.
HS has been nothing but garbage for me.
When I lived in Nashville and had Dish and received MSG, I discovered that, by state law, they were only allowed to show a certain number of live out of markets sporting events on regional networks. Just because you get MSG doesn't mean you'll be able to watch Rangers games. You still have to get the Center Ice package.

Well let me argue for you
The signal from your laptop was 1080p, the video you streamed was still 720p. Doesn't matter what video you were playing, your laptop would still output the desktop resolution to your TV. You could be streaming a video in 100x100 and your TV would still say it was 1080p
im looking to get GCL for the first time so i can watch games through xbox. just wondering what the whole 'blackout' thing means. i dont want to be getting GCL if i'm not gonna be able to view Ranger games. sorry but im from ireland and don't really get the blackout term
If you live in the local market of the team you're trying to watch (e.g. in Queens trying to watch the Rangers, Philly trying to watch the Flyers, etc.) then you're "blacked out": you'll be unable to watch the game. You can only watch out of market games. If you live in Ireland, you shouldn't have to worry about local blackouts.
The only other time blackouts occur is if the game you're trying to watch is also being broadcast on one of the national networks--NHL Network, NBC or NBC Sports. Again, though, I don't think that applies to folks living outside of the US. On that, you'll need to check the fine print!
Hahaha what stark contrast... you should back that up with some info for prospective buyers though, no?
thanks for clearing that up, really appreciate it. so basically if you would likely have other means of watching the game, it wont be on GCL. Yeah not too many tv stations over here with Ranger games
hockeystreams is going to get shutdown sooner or later. I'd be skeptical about using it.

The skepticism plays in their favor. It will keep the user base down to the diehard fans, and won't poach enough users from GameCenter to make it worth it to the NHL to start any litigation.
Purchased 1 year at HS the other day. So far the only issues I've had were occasionally the feeds on some CHL games would go out for about 10 seconds and then come back in, I'm assuming that's more on the end of the broadcasting in small-town Western Canada arenas than HS though. I'm a huge fan of it so far. Haven't tried streaming it through my PS3, mostly because I have a good desktop and like having the game on one half of the screen and whatever else I'm doing on the other half. I'd recommend HS if you have a good computer and good internet connection!
