After this game, will Rod finally put/staple Skjei to the 2nd power play unit after his power play goal? I mean, holy shit. Go for the low hanging fruit to improve the power play at the very least. We've discussed it a lot of times before of replacing Pesce on the 2nd PP unit with Skjei. Skjei now has 8 goals in the season.

Also, it's nice that the guy who scored a hat trick for Columbus (his first hat trick in his career) and scored in the shootout, doesn't even have a picture to his name on NHL.com LOL: Carolina Hurricanes - Columbus Blue Jackets - January 7th, 2023

Maximus Pachioretty had an awesome game tonight. Makes me wish even more that we could get Meier and have Max on one PP unit and Meier on the other. That'd improve our power play depth significantly. Good/skilled shooters is what we need, and enough of this shooting the puck at the goalie's torso BS.

Damn so we got single-handedly destroyed by a rookie who came into the game with 2G-0A in 13 NHL games? Sounds about right for us

I mean, Kooch played the last two, yeah? So Raanta had basically a week between starts? I don’t think that’s an unreasonable workload.
I'm not saying it's an unreasonable workload. I'm saying he's our third goaltender for a reason, and that we needed him for that really good stretch, and now he's reverting to the mean and we need our #1 goalie back.

Any day now, Fred.

Fred doesn't want to play. I have it on good authority here from a poster who is close to the situation.

Laugh all you want. Or just see what Toronto fans had to say about his injuries and painfully long recovery times.

4 goals on like 18 shots though, that's quality shit. Who needs slow walking Andersen when we have that grade a shit.

I mean, it's still probably Aho or Svech. Aho has been dogshit since his return from injury, and Svech is actively hurting the team when he takes stupid penalties, so we've got the past 3 games.

At least the Svech line contributes offensively. Our top line has been completely invisible this year, and it really doesn't help that Jarvis has proven to be physically in over his head in the NHL right now. That man needs to bulk up and get a lot stronger on his skates in a hurry.

all you have to do is go read what Leafs fans wrote about him. They are, after all, known to be a voice of reason when it comes to hockey.

Especially when it comes to goaltending. Who could forget their oft-lauded goaltenders? Andrew Raycroft, Justin Pogge, Garrett Sparks, Jack Campbell, all future HoFers according to Toronto fans at certain points in their career.

We've discussed it a lot of times before of replacing Pesce on the 2nd PP unit with Skjei. Skjei now has 8 goals in the season.

Skjei absolutely makes more sense from a skill perspective, but they are super committed to having a RHD in that slot. Under Rod, the only left handed D with serious PP minutes are Slavin and Gardiner. The others are Faulk, Hamilton, DeAngelo, Burns, Pesce. Even Joey Keane, an RHD, came in for a one-game cameo and got almost 3 minutes of PP time.

If we cornered Rod and forced a full explanation, I expect it would be along the lines that we want a shooting threat toward the center of the net from that left point position. That draws the PK’s high forward toward the middle, which leaves a bunch of space for a left handed forward to create a shooting threat on the right side of the ice, and as the puck rotates lower that forward can slip in quietly as the uncovered shooter.

If you watch the PPG Pacioretty scored in this game, that is exactly what happened. CBJ swarmed all over Burns and Aho on the left side of the ice, so Pacioretty had plenty of space to sneak in an open one-timer. Three quick passes and it’s a slam dunk goal.

The problem with having a LHD in that role is that the D doesn’t need to respect that inside threat as much, and his passes to the left side are going to be a little more awkward and take a little more time. Unless of course you have him at the right point, in which case you’re looking at switching the forwards around as well.

(TIC) Not sure if serious... they have had the best team ever for the past 67 years...

@tarheelhockey I regret to inform you that this is a fairly well reasoned post.. and In and of itself it is fine however the PP results as a whole are NOT fine... therefore if we need to move people around then $@#$ing do it!.

Thank you.
