I can see Boqvist getting stronger and developing into a Barrie/Shattenkirk type of defenseman, but I still wouldn't see that as a core piece for us that we need to cling to. If Boqvist had the skating or vision of a Quinn Hughes type player I would feel differently but I don't see that kind of skill from him. If a GM values him highly in a package deal where the Jackets get an upgrade, then I say you make the move. Don't sell low but if the value is there go for it.

If you bring in a D upgrade and have two more spots for Peeke, Blanks, and Boq to fight over, then I could see Boqvist losing that battle and losing a lot of trade value.
Honest Q... Have we already determined Boqvist doesn't have those attributes or can't grow into them? I feel like he's still a player we're not sure exactly what have with.. only 21 years old.

And for how often he's been hurt this year I don't think we've seen the real player he is/can be quite yet.

He's not impressed me as much as I hoped going into the season, but I'm not ready to ship him out anytime soon unless its a sure-fire elite player coming back.

Boqvist is 21. He is 3 years younger than Peeke and 2 years younger than Blanks.

If you had to choose 1 of those 3 and you don't take Boqvist.......I can't agree.

His age is factored into his trade value, and I think his trade value might be higher than his long term value to the Jackets.

What are you imagining him turning into in a few years? Any comparable players? I would like someone to tell me that they think he'll be more valuable than Barrie/Shattenkirk in some way.

That is a good point, his strength is something the Jackets have in Zach with similar shortcomings. We do know the growing pains were worth it for Zach now because he has developed, but there is no promise of that in anyone. So I guess I would agree with a little more hindsight.

If I get first pick of the 3 with a blank team, of course you take Adam. But the Jackets do have an All-Star already doing what he does. If he goes as a part to get a creative forward, sure.

That's sort of my main argument - that we don't have a need for an offensive specialist.

But I also have to say that I like Zach's D a lot more than that. He gets caught rovering at times but his actual D zone play is strong. He's got the technique, the willingness, the strength. Boqvist is a zero in all of those respects. His D technique is surprisingly bad, and I mean bad for his age too.

I think the way Boqvist joins the rush and his instincts inside the offensive zone are very valuable to have, and believe his issues away from the puck and in battles can get better as he gets older and more experienced/stronger. I've heard the Karlsson comparison before and stylistically I think it's not bad.

My concern is that he's kinda fragile and I wonder if his injury history might affect his impact on the team.

He likely still has lots of trade value, as he should, he's a talented young player. You don't score 11 goals in 52 games at age 21 as a defenseman in this league without having some value.

If a big fish is on the table in trade, I'd listen. But I'm happy to keep him.

Yes I'm wondering if I've undervalued what he brings as a puck carrier. I don't see him as great at it but maybe I'm wrong about that.

I wouldn't guess that his trade value has gone down at all, I figured it has gone up since he's scored so much.

I don't think he's an elite puck carrier really, but he recognizes when to join and makes himself available which the D has to respect. He drives to the net surprisingly well. I just feel like he's a good player for pushing the pace offensively.

Why do we have to choose only 1?
You can pick all 3, but if you do, you probably won’t have any additions to the blue line unless Bean is moved out. Certainly wouldn’t have any additions to the right side of the D.
