Habs on the positive end of a lopsided score for a change, beating the Kraken 5-1 on Sunday. Or, did they beat the Kraken?
Was it really them or ... what in the heck was that jersey contraption they were sporting?
Upon closer inspection, the Habs did face the Kraken but dressed up as an in-house bowling league team on an evening pass from a neighboring penitentiary.
Habs put themselves in a comfortable position by scoring 4 unanswered goals in the first period, capped off by a 36-save performance from Primeau.
Marty watching closely from afar, enjoyed Slaf getting a point in a 7th consecutive game. And noticed how Shane Wright was nowhere to be found. And with that, he chuckled, leaned back his lazy boy and reached for a bag of chips.
Chips as a snack during a West Coast game? Clearly, Marty has not kept up with the times and the leading products to consume while viewing a late night event ...
And so, back to Letowski.
He had been winless in his first 2 games acting as head coach with the Habs. He also knew that Marty's return was imminent and that his window to win as head coach, would be closing real fast.
As soon as Letowski saw his team take a 4-0 lead in the Kraken game, he loved his chances to notch that first head coaching win.
He began fantasizing about what it would mean for his career, his family, his status ... even how that trading card in his name, from his playing days, would accrue in value. He waited for a break in play, reached out for his tablet device and longingly admired his card ...

Letowski then went back to the game at hand and kept hoping the Habs would hold the lead until the very end. He also noticed during the first period that Marty was trying to get in touch with him. What was that about? Marty never contacted him during games.
The craziest of thoughts raced through his head. He began fearing that Marty was going to announce that he was on his way to Seattle and would be taking over head coaching duties mid-game and ruin his moment.
That's when he chose to ignore Marty's call until the Habs won and Letowski won! He had made it right on time ...
Following the Habs' win, a long awaited piece of good news came about. Marty is returning behind the bench and will be coaching tonight's game against the Avs. Looking like his family emergency was met with a positive outcome and we all couldn't be happier.
Although, with so few games left and the balance of schedule being meaningless, no one would have really batted an eye if Marty had instead chosen to spend the rest of the season with his family.
Unfortunately for Marty, he's coming back just when the team is facing a tough opponent. We admire your courage Marty, but you sure chose a tough one for your return ...
Also of note, Alex Newhook, fresh off scoring two goals against the Kraken, will be playing in Denver for the first time since the Habs traded for him.
Newhook was an Av for 3 seasons and won a Stanley Cup there. Maybe there will be money put up in the Habs dressing room for this one, even though the likely outcome makes it merely a symbolic gesture.
Facing the Avs also means an encounter with one Jonathan Drouin.
He's been doing mighty fine for himself, recently playing on a line with Mackinnon and Lehkonen and being deployed on the first PP unit. He comes into this game having posted points in 4 straight and having racked up 13 points in his last 8 games.
Jeez Jonathan, 6 years as a Hab -- couldn't you have saved some of that for us? Happy for you that you stopped buffering and actually entered full-on activation mode.
We're left with a bitter taste of your time as a Hab but that's strictly for the hockey player you were with us. We fully understand that you had challenges. And we hear you were a nice guy off ice. But still ...
At least Marty will be there tonight, to greet you in person. Cause deep down, he really approves of your choice of chips.
All good Jonathan — we're really liking a lot of the teammates you've left behind.
