I mean it lasted longer but we were still in first twice when he made coaching changes lol...the second time with Julien they were maybe .500 over a fifteen-game stretch. I was almost more annoyed over that than him firing Larry for Constantine, it was like Lou literally wanted perfection. I didn't know they had that whole incident where Madden or Gomez shot a puck at him and Julien just stood down though.

Thats fair but Ive seen just today some pretty long-reaches on folks showing slight concern. Yes I know theres doomsdayers too

My point is actually this game doesn’t matter that much because end of the season game results don’t matter as much as you much as you might think it would.

You would think losing a bunch of games right before the playoffs start is a terrible sign.

You would think a winning streak right before the playoff start bodes really well.

But in both cases they very often don’t, particularly with teams not fighting to get into the playoffs.

It may strike people as counter-intuitive but it’s true.

And players performing well or not performing well don’t always mean much either.

For instance, if we had a top 5 Power Play all year and it was roiling in the last 20 games, you would be optimistic about it, right?

Well Florida’s PP infamously died in the playoffs after doing just great in their last 20 games.

If you look at the xG Florida was arguably riding shooting percentage, rather than generating an insane amount of offense on the PP (like Tampa, Edmonton, etc). And relying on shooting % is tricky thing.

If people are concerned about goaltending, that’s understandable, but not much anyone can do about that. Hopefully we’ll have all three guys healthy going into the playoffs.

Well old-school Lou anyway. Lou hasn't been as hair-trigger with coaches over the last decade although the Trotz thing was puzzling at best.

There were rumors about Trotz stepping away from coaching, and going into management, and those turned out to be true so it’s a lot less puzzling.

Lou might have been afraid Detroit was going to poach Lambert and Trotz wasn’t sticking around. He also might have not wanted to set Trotz up as his successor. Who knows.

We can surmise that Trotz wasn’t signing an extension with the Isles without a management position though.

The biggest lesson from the last 2 games imo is that they need to maintain their level of play for a full 60 minutes or the other team will jump all over those sags in play. Even if it comes in the last seconds of the period.

These are important lessons they need to carry into the postseason.
