For some players I'd absolutely give 8 years, but they are franchise level number 1 dmen or forwards. I just think with goalies the gap between the elite and the average or even bottom 10 starters isn't that big anymore, and it seems to be impossible to predict any goalies performance year to year.

There is a big difference between the elite and the bottom 10. My opinion of course.Most GM's agree with you on the 8yr. term.
