Probably because we've seen that script play out so many times before.....
The only difference between the state of the team right now and that disaster home game against Montreal is Jake Oettinger's current level of excellence. The only reason the past two weeks weren't a disaster was Otter. Before the Montreal game, they were coming off the road with scoring troubles against better teams. Now they're just simply not scoring but receiving elite goaltending.
I'm not trying to jinx him, but I have a hard time seeing a repeat of the Montreal game if Jake's still playing at a high level. Sucks that the team around him has been playing poorly for the past 6 games. At this point, I just hope he keeps it up because I'd like to see him get some playoff action. Not going to waste my energy hoping for them to collapse enough to move the needle. Seems unlikely, and it's been fun watching Oettinger's development at least.
