I think, given their current situation and need on defense, that they would be crazy to turn down an offer for a good defenseman because they are hung up on Kapanen.

They made their decision, whether they like it or not, when they signed Nylander to that contract.

Nylander will come back to being the 22 goal 60 point player - minimum.

Kapanen may reach heights like that.

If I were the Leafs I would trade those players for help on D - but not until their trade value is where it will be in the near future. No sense in trading them now when they haven't reached their potential, unless a team pays up for that potential.
