Benn is great at many things but the shootout isn't one of them. Unfortunately we don't really have any great shootout guys except Spezza and Seguin. The good (?) thing is that we rarely get to the shootout since we suck so badly at OT. I'd have gone Spezza, Seguin, Hemsky and then maybe Benn. Everyone after the first two is kind of a crapshoot though

For me it's:

Sceviour
Fiddler
Seguin
Rous
Eakin

However you feel about the guy, Phaneuf would've been EXTREMELY useful at the end of the game there.

I think the coaching staff messed up when the goalie was pulled THAT early.. Roy does it I guess every time but Roussel and Garbutt at least were there when Varlamov left to go to the bench and never after that got out.

Once last year, Roy pulled Varly for a defensive zone draw. He's pretty ballsy with it.

I want D that can clear the crease. Then **** like that in the last seconds of the 3rd wouldn't happen.

there's always something to complain about with Defenceman. If we had guys that could clear the crease, it would turn out they couldn't make passes and got caught in their end all the time.

Unfortunately the scenario where we could just bring in a net clearing specialist for the last 2 minutes of the game + the PK doesn't actually exist right now, we have to live with this oaf for 15 minutes at 5 on 5. .

No we need Goligoski covering the ghost in the corner boards.. like WTF is he doing in my screenshot?

Couldn't agree more.

Goligoski lets Redmond stand in front of Kari on Barrie's game tying goal.

Really makes me miss Nemeth that much more.

I think that's why Oleksiak frustrates me so much. You'd think that with his size he'd be able to clear the crease but for whatever reason he doesn't. There's been at least one recent goal where it was his man screening Kari and he just kind of stood there and did nothing. I'm frustrated with everyone for not doing it but there an extra edge with Oleksiak because there's no physical reason for him not to be able to do it.

The only excuse would be if the coaches tell them not to which would be ****ing stupid and if they've said that then I want everyone to ignore them

I completely agree, and if we had Phaneuf, it wouldn't even be a problem. Goligoski wouldn't be on the ice.

Phaneuf would be in front of the net, clearing the crease, getting in shooting lanes to block shots.

I'd love to do it, but I honestly don't give that much of a ****, but- Surely theres some sort of stat out there that shows how many times Goli has been on the ice with a minute left that's resulted in a goal from Kari being screened. I'd make a big ass video mashup of it and host it on youtube, but I just feel like it would fall upon deaf ears.

It's amazing how many times he's put out there in losing situations.

At least put Demers and 2pak out there. The odds are at least better that somebody can out muscle whoever is in the slot. Why put your two weakest and not even defensive minded defenseman for that situation in games? Ruff truly blows my mind with how ****in horrible he is at assessing situations. I mean these should be layup decisions here.

I don't know why criticizing Kari for this game is somehow treading sacred ground.

Were either of two regulation goals on him? Of course not. Either Seguin blew his coverage, or he and Daley miscommunicated, but whatever the case, an open man had a can't miss rebound. The 2nd goal had a **** load of traffic involving scrambling d-men who couldn't jam anyone next to them.

However, good goalies don't care about how, they just care how much. Kari had opportunities to win the game, and didn't. This has been the story of his performance ALL season; not just one game. Flat out, he's been one of the worst starters in the league, and this isn't a subjective thing; just look at his stats among goalies with over 1 thousand minutes of TOI. Part of this game was simply of microcosm of Kari's season thus far; all about how, not how much. Varlamov outplayed him, and that was the difference. Simple as that.

Okay prime, so substitute weak wrister with weak snap shot. It still is not a "huge bomb" like the ******** that you're spewing. Most goalies, at the very least, will be down on the ice in time as to not allow a shot to slide between their legs.

Also yeah, I jumped on Kari for it, after going back and watching. My mistake, Kari isn't the reason we lost.

I appreciate that you looked at it again and changed your mind. Zero sarcasm. I wish more people on this board would rewatch things and correct themselves.

My guess is that their concern is to have our two best puck moving defenceman out there in the event one of them does get his stick on the puck, they can make an intelligent play with it in a split second.

When it matters dallas can't shut the door.

Roussel deserved a point tonight. Played out of his mind.

5 points out of the last playoff spot and having to jump at least 3 teams Dallas isn't in a position to be buyers at this deadline. They can't waste what assets they have and still fall short.

I don't think Nill has the guts to sell either. I can only hope Goligoski goes at the draft for a 2nd + a prospect.
