When we drafted him, he was fairly new to the defense position, and it was fully expected that he wouldn't turn pro until this season, and then he would probably need a full season in the AHL.

He's already in the NHL! Like 2+ years ahead of schedule. I don't see any reason to think that his steep development trajectory is suddenly going to stop. He is going to come into next season greatly improved.

My quarrel isn't with what he might become. It's with what he is.

There were lots of stories before the season that Miller might make it out of the gate because of his performance in the bubble, the season before.

Same question. How long does it remain part of the discussion?

All of that was chatter over the span of a couple months. Before that, everyone assumed he'd be in the AHL for at least a year, and even when camp broke, we were all prepared to be pissed off if Johnson kept him from getting a shot.

As to your question--when Miller stops showing regular growth in his game from year to year, it can start to be removed from the discussion. He keeps growing as a defenseman. When that stops, we'll have a sense of who he will be long term as a player.
