Ansar Khan: Red Wings look to break through on power play against Phoenix, which has struggled on penalty kill

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings are one of four teams still seeking their first power-play goal. The Phoenix Coyotes could be just the club they want to see.

The Coyotes (1-2-0) have allowed five power-play goals in three games, including two in each of their past two games, losses to San Jose (4-1) and the New York Islanders (6-1).

After a four-day break, the Red Wings (2-1-0) host Phoenix on Thursday (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit).

...

“It’s almost like we’re starting the season over again with three (games) in four (days) and then four days without a game,’’ Detroit captain Henrik Zetterberg said. “But we’re looking forward to play again, and every time we play against Phoenix it’s good games.’’

...

“Every time we play Phoenix it’s a very hard-fought game,’’ Howard said. “They’re so well-coached, they play their systems so well. If you’re going to beat them you have to beat them with all aspects of your game.’’
...

“Obviously, they have good goaltending and they play a good system,’’ Zetterberg said. “You really can’t give them too much. They’re good when they get the odd-man rushes and you have to take care of the puck and play our system well and we will do fine.”

Our old bones are rested, but we still have issues scoring goals. Wings 3-1.

I would say 4-2 Detroit after an empty netter. Our offense does well, but our defense allows a couple of easy goals. Alfredsson will score one, and possibly a goal from either Kindl or Ericsson.

*Russian accent:* If we lose I will be very dissapoint. If we lose the wings must get rid of chicken swedes and replace them with mighty Rassians. CSKA will buy the wings from bankrupt city and country. LONG LIVE THE RED WINGS, THE REALLY RED WINGS!!! BUhaha,,, well that is if we lose, if not...carry on.

The Wings have yet to have a convincing win. Even against Buffalo, they didn't kill them off after a very good start to the game. They went to OT after trailing the Canes and lost to Boston (pretty convincingly). A nice blowout againt the Coyotes would be nice :D

It'll be a close one, a 3-2 Wings win with goals from Abdelkader, Kronwall and a flukey goal from Cleary.

If we can't score at least 3-4 goals tonight we are in serious trouble offensively this year. Would be nice if our bottom 6 could help out with that.

I'll be at the game tonight really stoked. The band I'm in got picked to be show cased during the 2nd intermission. With that being said I'm thinking the yotes jump out on us early but we eventually pull out the win 4-3.

I thought the win in Buffalo was convincing despite the close score.

I thought the win in Buffalo was convincing despite the close score.

Unfortunately I have thought that in every game I have seen Buffalo play this year. They have been pretty soundly outplayed in all four of their games.

Hope Gator is ready for all the smack talk coming his way from Doan tonight. If bad Mike Smith shows up this should be a fairly easy victory. Phoenix isn't very good and are down a couple of their better veteran d-man.
