However I will note I was surprised with his ability to play the puck. He made a couple great outlet passes that created nice offensive rushes.

He's on the Red Wings backup to Howard. There's no way Fasth is 2nd best Swedish goalie to Lunds. No way that's super over hype.

Not all but a lot of Swedes would rank Fasth second to Lundqvist right now.

BUT Fasth is still unproven on NHL level having played just one game thus making a comparison difficult.

Talent wise is different, then I would rank Lehner, Markstrom and Lack ahead of Fasth.

Lundqvist number one by a very large margin though.

EDIT: Unfortunately rebound control is something many Swedish goalies seem to struggle with on NHL level though. :-( Perhaps the best example of this in recent years is Jonas Gustavsson.

I'm not saying he's 2nd. But Gustavsson is very average at best. Being back up on the Red Wings doesn't make him better.

If Fasth flops we likely won't want him back. If he does well we will likely have competition trying to resign him. He wants to be a starter. A good year here could convince somebody to give him that chance with a multi year bigger dollar deal.

Either way he could end up only being here one year.

This site has all Swedish goalies ranked in there respective positions.

I thought it was almost a given he was only going to be here one year unless no one else wanted to give him a chance next season.

Fasth is probably nr2 if there was like the olympics right now. He may have to get used to the NHL, but in his time with AIK he was arguably the best goalie playing in europe and he was very good as starter in the wc the first time, a little worse the second. Lehner and Co. may surpass him and are better on small rink, but Fasth is better then them on big ice probably.

Dude, Gustavsson sucks, and Hedberg is nothing that special. It's not that crazy.

Really? Not that crazy? He's played 1 NHL game in his entire NHL career. And you have him better than NHL goalies who've played for years. THAT'S crazy

He's also played in the Swedish league for years. Hockey does exist outside of the NHL, and the competition for the #2 spot isn't all that great.

Why. Who was the last Swedish goaltender to be the SEL's top goaltender twice in a row? Pretty sure the goalie many consider to be the best in the world right now. Not that crazy.

Guess we're gonna have a SEL vs. NHL debate regarding player talent and quality players there playing against. Your acting as if the SEL is the best league in the world. Well your wrong DJ NHL - KHL - insert what ever you want.

It's more about small ice vs big ice. Fasth is probably top 5-10 on big ice and would do better then most NHL goalies( for obvious reasons). Outside the NHL that stuff matters.

KHL have better top teams and have some great players, but SEL can have one or two better players despite that, like Fasth.

That might apply if all things are equal, such as the best goalie in the NHL vs. the best goalie in the SEL... that isn't the case though. You're arguing that the best goalie in the SEL can't be better than a fairly average goalie in the NHL(if that's what you'd call someone like Gust).

Well apparently NHL teams wanted Gust over all other Free Agents not drafted to NHL. That speaks for something right? We signed Fasth as a free agent btw. Not even drafted wtf?
