MAPLE LEAFS (14-9-3) at CANADIENS (14-9-3)

TV: NHLN-US , CBC, RDS

Last 10: Toronto 3-4-3; Montreal 6-2-2

Season series: This is the second of five games. The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 on opening night. The teams don't see each other again until the Canadiens come to Air Canada Centre on Jan. 18.

Big story: These longtime rivals come into the game with identical records, but they have been heading in opposite directions. The Maple Leafs, who have slipped to fifth place in the Atlantic Division after finishing October atop the division, have dropped three in a row and are 4-5-3 in November. The Canadiens come into the game on a 5-1-1 run.

Toronto has won four of six games against the Canadiens since the start of the 2012-13 season.

Team Scope:

Maple Leafs: Toronto has had a rough week. It started Monday with a 6-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Then came a 6-5 shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday after the Maple Leafs held a 4-1 lead. The Maple Leafs stayed winless this week by losing 3-2 in overtime to the League-worst Buffalo Sabres on Friday.

Toronto led Buffalo 2-1 late in the second period but wound up settling for a single point; afterward, coach Randy Carlyle seemed at a loss to explain his team's recent skid.

"The breaks aren't going our way," he said. "That's when you've got to find ways to create more."

The Maple Leafs are allowing an NHL-worst 35.8 shots on goal per game.

Canadiens: Montreal let a point slip away Friday against the Washington Capitals when Mikhail Grabovski beat goalie Peter Budaj to tie the game at 2-2 with 5:32 left in regulation and again in the shootout to win it for Washington. The loss snapped the Canadiens' four-game winning streak.

Still, coach Michel Therrien was pleased with his team's effort against the Capitals.

"I thought we played well enough to win the game," he said, "so I'm disappointed that we came up short, but I believe our effort was there and when you go to a shootout, you never know.

"We found a way to score two goals, but it was not good enough."

Who's hot: Phil Kessel scored in the losses to Buffalo and Pittsburgh. He has four goals in Toronto's past six games and leads the team with 14. Center Tyler Bozak has three points (one goal) in three games since returning from a hamstring injury. … Canadiens goalie Carey Price is 3-1-1 in his past five starts with a .957 save percentage (155 saves on 162 shots). Center Tomas Plekanec has two goals his past three games.

Injury report: Defenseman Douglas Murray (upper body) sat out Friday's game. Forward Rene Bourque (groin) is almost ready to return. … Toronto is without forward Joffrey Lupul (groin) and center Dave Bolland (groin).

Saturday night game in Montreal, does not get much better than this. Doesn't matter how poorly we're going right now.

Bernier has a chance to have a leg up on Reims, if he wants it. Big game for him, I want to see how he does. Hopefully he will own these fools.

Get a point at least and keep pace.

We need a win tonight. A loss in OT or SO will send this forum over the edge.

Let's hope the Frenchman can acquire the two points in his hometown.

Go leafs go! Oh ya!

Hopefully getting beat by two of the worst teams and blowing a 4-1 lead to one of the best teams this week will wake them up.

Nope, built in excuse after playing last night so this "hardworking" Leafs team will probably take it and many will give it to them. Excuses for everyone! Also, a team would have to have a coach that prepares them for challenges and the Leafs don't have one of those.

Need to just go out there and outwork the opposition. Not going to win much if you aren't at least looking like the hardest working team on the ice.

Not sure why it says Bolland is out with a groin injury... If he's out ~ 3 months with a groin injury we should just get rid of him now ;)

Okay, Leafs this is the perfect game for you guys to win (I thought yesterday's was a good chance tho...) We have done a great job against MTL the last 2-3 years, Bernier will be excited to play in MTL, and we've now been humiliated 3 times this week. Only fault is that it's a back 2 back, but since we stopped playing the second half of last game, we shouldn't be tired...

We need to burn the boats. The team hasn't been playing like the boats have been burned.

Game plan: Score 1 goal early and then instantly switch into defensive formation and hope to make it to overtime.

End result: 6-1 Montreal.

Good luck tonight guys, not.
But seriously I hope both teams play fair tonight.

We REALLY need another solid D man in this lineup or center man in this lineup. Either a legitimate D man to play with Phaneuf (#1-2, priority) or a C in the mold of Mike Richards (Schenn?).

It believe we have almost gotten to the point of making a change to send a message.

Actually it seems as if its the opponents that are burning the Leafs boats while their still in them lately. :wg:

Bigger problem is,

why are the leafs still in their boats, instead of running into battle?

Stop being so pessimistic! No way in hell do we score just one goal! We're better than that.

We will go up by 4-1, realize that we have already got the game in the bag, stop caring, and end up losing 5-4 in OT.

Hurray! 1 point.

Nothing is better than a win on Saturday HNIC verse arch rival original 6 Montreal, and conversely nothing feels worse.

So we better win tonight.
