Was able to go to this game....Veggie really screwed up on that play. Had just gotten some momentum and then he goes and does that... No excuse.

I know some of you guys disagree - but Im not budging. The number of bonehead mistakes ( 3 of them led to a philly goal; 2 capo, who is awful tonight, and 1 by veggie) is indicative of terrible coaching. these bonehead plays don't happen due to lack of skill. its terrible prep and instruction by the coaches.

We’re gonna need a top tier coach, or this tank will be an epic fail.

What the hell is the coach supposed to do, get out on the ice and hold the players hands so they don't make mistakes?

Do you think they just don't say anything about the plan and go "okay guys get out there and play hard and have fun" and intermissions are just a re enactment of the miracle speech? Do you think the coaches don't go over tape and say "Alright Veji, this one was a stinker, can't be doing that".

Baffling comment.

Having a working system fit for the roster in place should limit mistakes. But I think Tourigny deliberately has given the players a longer leach in this regard, to not suppress creativity. Imo that's part of why we're seeing better versions of Keller, Crouse, Fischer etc this year. PTS% won't matter. Growth of our young players will, and learning from mistakes instead of sticking to a strict system (would need to be very strict and very simple to cover up the talent difference most nights) should help them become better players in the long run.

Three tanks of the night
3) - Loui’s penalty
2) - Capo’s dangle
1) - ( of course) Veggies bullet pass

Sorry Mig disagree. They will be two years of 30 to 50 points. No real UFA will want to sign with a team like this. We don’t even have ice to play on next year.

How can we turn this around in 3 :)

FA recruitment will be a challenge next summer. But we can try to bring in big-dollar players via trade. Cap dumps but guys with actual talent and not on their last legs.

By 3 I'm talking the 2024-25 season, which will be the inaugural season in the new Tempe Town Lake Arena and Casino.

12 draft picks in 2022
8 or 9 picks in 2023
10 or 11 picks in 2024

Sure, most of these picks will not become impact NHL players, but with ~30 picks over the next 3 drafts, I like our odds of adding at least a half dozen.

We also have a fair amount of talent that's already in the pipeline.

As far as UFAs, there are only so many teams with cap space to sign top UFAs. Not all of them get to go to their dream team. Additionally, some of them will see what's happening in the desert and want to be part of it.

There is very clearly a working system in place, yes guys probably have a bigger leash but that's also because there's so much less certainty about roster spots and more competition. There is only so much a system can do, and I also don't think that hammering a certain system into players heads like Tip or Toc did is the way the game should be played if you're trying to win either. But to say the coach doesn't prep or react or well...coach, the players, is baffling. I agree that this version of the team is much better, more engaged, and solid.

I'd take 100 bonehead plays over seeing every single player dump and chase and give up chances. have their confidence shot, and then get progressively shittier and shittier until we trade them and they break out somewhere else.

100%. I agree on everything here. Not sure why I quoted your post in the first place haha. I guess all I'm saying is systems can help to limit mistakes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're the right system for the team.

I think we all agree the overall talent level isnt sufficient for even 50 points. If thats all the Coyotes can do, ok, but I think the coaching needs to take account of what the team can do and what they cant do, and instruct and coach accordingly.
It would seem to me that in such a situation, avoiding making mistakes like
- cross ice passes by the goalie
- rookie defenseman trying to dangle up the middle
- tripping penalties in the O zone
would be paramount.

Note, avoiding these type of bonehead plays doesn't mean playing dump & chase, and it is silly to suggest otherwise.
Thus I am concluding the coaching is poor.
And you folks that think otherwise, imho, are in denial or deluded or both
