I've never played hockey but I generally think 4 on 3 is risky but the offense has a harder time keeping the puck in because it's harder to cover the points.
But it seems like there is less traffic, so a good keeper has better eyes on the puck. It would be interesting to see the stats on the comparative average shot distance in those two situations.
