Forward & Team Captain DUSTIN BROWN said:
" (On the improvements in the team’s overall game) … “I think we’re definitely playing better hockey, both individually and collectively. We’re starting to score more goals, and that’s the result of ultimately playing better defense. Last night I thought we were really good in the defensive zone. A lot of their chances came on the power play, which is something we need to shore up on the PK. I thought we limited their time and space, especially their key guys.” (On the lack of power plays drawn despite the possession advantages) … “I think it’s just kind of how it goes some times. There are probably games where – I think it was Edmonton – [there was] a lot of power play and penalty kill. It’s just how the game goes some times.” (On the cycle game once again developing for his line) … “Yeah, the key thing for us is the consistency, shift after shift. We’re starting to get the offensive cycle game going, and we’re also starting to get a few rush chances, and again that comes back to our d-zone playing and eliminating chances and pressuring them right away, not allowing them to really get any zone time. It’s frustrating being on the other side when a team takes your zone time. It always seems like you’re backchecking. I think last night,. Especially, we had a lot of those in and outs where we’re back in our D-zone for maybe five, six seconds, and get the puck turned over and go the other way.” (On the physical game against Anaheim) … “I mean, they’re a big, physical team. But I think that’s what you generally get when you play us. That’s what makes us a successful team from top to bottom. We have big guys that can bang on every line. When we’re on top of our game, it’s a grinding, physical game for the opponent and in turn we’re OK playing that way.” (On the play of the defensive corps despite absences on the blue line) … “I think with Keats coming in and Muzz, I think they’re getting more comfortable. Especially Muzz being a younger guy with not a lot of NHL experience, he’s starting to I think get a little more comfortable in the system and how we play the game. The others – Scuds, Slava and Dewey – are staples of the back end, regardless.” (On Voynov and Doughty still being young) … “Yeah, but Dewey’s been around for five years. Scuds has been a backbone of our team for a while on the back end. It always helps to have those guys kind of push the younger guys and the newer guys along. It’s an opportunity for Muzz to step in and he’s done a good job.” (On what he can “pinpoint” among Muzzin’s improvements) … “I think he’s getting himself in better position quicker. The first couple weeks of the year, the speed of the game – he’s making better plays now, but I think it’s a result of getting in position quicker and giving him an extra half second to make that play. That’s just kind of something you’ve got to get used to, is the pace of the game’s a little bit quicker than the AHL. Getting back for pucks, if you get back quicker, it’s much harder as a forechecker to get on the guy, and he’s starting to do a better job of that.” (On scoring a goal that bounced outside of the goal line and skipped in beating Viktor Fasth) …“Yeah, I saw the replay. I mean, I’ve seen it happen. I’ve never scored a goal like that. Sometimes it bounces the right way. It was a one-on-one. I tried to use their D as a screen. That’s something I work on, shooting through the D…If you can do it right, it’s the hardest thing for the goalie, from whatever distance.” (Whether he shot the puck through the defender’s legs) … “Just by [him] on that one. I think it was Fowler. He kind of went down on one knee, so I was just shooting it by him. Sometimes you shoot it through him, just try to find a hole where it makes it tricky for the goalie to pick it up. I don’t know if I could shoot the puck that hard when I was 10, but I’m sure I’ve gone bar-down before."

Defenseman JAKE MUZZIN said:
"We showed a lot of character coming back and sticking with it (for) the full 60 minutes, We've been preaching about that for the last couple of weeks, and we feel like we've been getting better and better at it."
Goaltender JONATHAN QUICK said:
" (On what led to the victory) … “We outworked them in the third, I think. Who knows. They played last night against Colorado, so maybe that played a factor in [it]. The first two periods were heavy. They were very physical. They had a lot of pace. When you’re playing back to back, sometimes it’s tough to play that style of game for 60 minutes. We were a little more fresh, I think, coming on a recovery day yesterday. We won the 20 minutes at the end, and that was what it took to win the game.” (On the importance of coming out strong in the third considering the Ducks are a team known for coming from behind) … “Why? Are they known for that? I didn’t know they were. I don’t know. No matter what, you have the lead, you don’t want to give it up.” (On whether the penalty kill early in the third was a turning point) … “Yeah, obviously. Every time somebody’s on the power play, it’s a chance for somebody to gain momentum, and if you kill it off, you gain a little bit. If you get a goal, obviously you’re going to get momentum. It goes both ways. We were able to kill it off, which was huge. We came back. We scored a couple big ones.” (On whether redemption was a factor, considering the previous loss to Anaheim) … “No, you’re just trying to win a game. That game’s in the past. You’re just trying to win a game. You start playing in the past, you’re not going to win many games. You just take it one game at a time.”
Head coach DARRYL SUTTER said:
" (On whether the Kings looked like a championship team) … “We struggled for the first half of the game. I think Jordan Nolan’s fight gave us a little energy, and obviously the power play goal in the third was huge.” (On whether the third period penalty kill was as important of a turning point) … “Oh, they’ve got a good power play. Percentage-wise, it’s a really good power play, and personnel-[wise] it’s a really good power play, so you have to try and manage your way around it. My biggest concern, obviously, is we didn’t have a power play yet going into the third. I think…we had…only nine power plays in five games, so the only time we get to practice it is in practice.” (On whether Monday’s performance was the best of the season) … “Not tonight it wasn’t, no.” (On whether this has been the team’s best stretch of play this season) … “[We] played well in Edmonton and Calgary, yeah.” (On whether he was happy with Davis Drewiske, given the added ice time) … “He didn’t get any more minutes than he normally gets.” (On the team’s third period performance) … “Well, it’s a tied game going into the third. Their team played last night, so you’re hoping you have a little bit more than they do in the tank. It’s simple. The schedule is such – and you hear other teams talking about it – back to back is hard on the guys that played the night before.” (On whether there is a rule that you can decline a penalty shot and take a power play) … “I don’t know, but I could make it up and say I don’t know. No, you can’t. I don’t think you can, can you? It’s funny, I told Brownie this morning – because we were watching shootouts early this morning – I told Brownie if you get a chance, go in there and fake forehand, go backhand on him. As usual, the players don’t listen to the coach. He went in, faked his backhand, went to his forehand.” (On whether better goaltending and defense was the difference between the two Anaheim games) … “Clearly both. But that game also, we chased the lead. Everybody forgets about it – we didn’t give up seven. We gave up six. Seven was an empty net. We came two-nothing down. We tied it two-two. We made it four-four. The difference in the game was that. It wasn’t that dramatic of a difference in the two games.” (On whether this game was a measuring stick) … “There’s no measuring stick in a 48-game schedule when you play as much as there is going on here. There’s no measuring stick. It’s just every game is park and ride, right? Pay the toll. Get in the fast lane.” (On whether he looks at the standings) … “Absolutely. Shorter season, the math tightens up. There are going to be eight teams that make it and seven that don’t.” (On being in the top eight) … “It’s good. We were [in the top eight] the other afternoon. When we walked out we were in it, and by the time I got home and got my jammies on, we were out of it.” (On whether he’ll enjoy the victory until tomorrow) … “Not really. Before the game was over, I was thinking about Detroit, who was guaranteed sitting up there watching us. I kind of figured that.” (On any team winning on any given night) … “That’s what the salary cap did, right? It made everybody equal. That’s why you’ve had seven different champions. Teams that make it, teams that don’t make it. [There’s] clear parity in the league. It used to be top guys, bottom guys…Now everybody’s the same. Really, when there’s no out of conference play, [there are] 15 teams, right? So the three teams that had great starts are teams that are 15 points ahead of everybody.”

Feb-Mar13Schedule_zps00002131.png

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

The Wings lineup is unimpressive these days. We should win this game, but Howard has stolen points from us on more than 1 occasion.

I seriously doubt he can dominate us twice in a row. Just be persistent, lots of shots, and lots of Carter.

Kings are 4-0 since I had In'n'Out burger this year. Since I had it last year the Kings went 16-5 en route to the Stanley Cup. I'm thinking that this is great news. And also thinking every September somebody should either fly me out to la to get some. Any takers?

I highly doubt that your diet is linked to the Kings' latest successes. I love In-N-Out as well, but I personally gave up superstitions last year when the Kings won the Cup.

I am too old now to hate teams, so I guess I don't really hate the Red Wings anymore. I can't stand their arrogant fans, however, and of course I expect a dose of them tonight at Staples. Hopefully, the STHs around me don't sell their seats to these...people. The Kings did a great job of silencing the one clown Ducks fan that appeared in my section the other night, so hoping for more of the same tonight.

It was weird on Monday. So few Ducks jerseys for the first time in the last 5 years. We are either filling up our own barn and they can't get tickets, and/or they can't say anything about having a Stanley Cup and that we don't.

The Ducks have been playing well too. Their fans would have been in their right to be positive about their team.

Nice to enjoy the game with lots of Kings fans, not opposing teams fans.

That being said, there are so many transplants from Michigan out here in California.

One of them is my co-worker at my new place of employment, who interrupted a meeting to ask if she could go to the Red Wings game with me.

Go Kings! :stanley:

I think they get the W tonight and have another strong game, like 4-1.

curious choice of broadcasters:

Someone please give me the logic of SJ Sharks TV pxp Hahn and Remenda calling DET-LAK on @NBCSN at Staples Center tomorrow night

THe reply he got basically said it's tied into being contracted by NBC and the SHarks team was the closest.

Makes no sense...

Hoping for a dominant performance by the Kings like last time in Detroit, and a final score that reflects the play on the ice.

I'm trying, but I just can't bring myself to watch the game. For me the Wings are just one of those teams I don't enjoy anything about. Hope the Kings win!

It makes perfect sense. Emerick, Eddie O, and Pierre McCreepy are going to do the Phylers/ Caps game earlier in the day.

I'd say the broadcasters makes plenty of sense. The Comcast/NBC thing, they're on the west coast so other announcers don't have to travel, and I doubt they have any love for either the Kings or Wings, so they won't be playing favorites.

It would be interesting to hear a constant trashing of both teams.

The Sharks announcers are actually two of the more unbiased in the league. Dallas's announcers are also good.

Except for when the Sharks are playing. They think the Sharks should have a 20-0 powerplay advantage each game.

I don't mind the Sharks announcers. Every duo/trio has a little home cooking to their calls, some more than others. I find them to usually be pretty fair. At least they bring some energy to a broadcast.

God I hate it when the Kings are televised on NBC. Oh well, I guess I'll have to use illegal streams tonight.
