I was in Detroit yesterday (God why have you forsaken me?) and caught the Oilers vs. Wings game. Little Caesars Arena is an amazing venue. If you ever go and sit in the upper deck, don't sit higher than row 6 if you are sitting between the goal lines (or 7 was it?) of the 11 rows up there. They have "gondola" premium seating which cuts off the jumbo tron-but they do have small screens one can see. The view of the arena from row 7 or 8 on up is obscured is well. Park for free in the Motor City Casino and you'll get a good 1 mile walk and your life will pass before your eyes on the way there. The way back not so much due to heavy traffic leaving the arena.
McDavid and Draisatl combined for a pretty goal last night but were off of their games. Neither of them were crisp with their passing often times and Draisatl wasn't handling passes well. I'd imagine that both of them will be fired up for tonight's contest. Obviously containing them is key, but if they're "on", they will put up points regardless of match ups-they are that good.
Other than James Neal, Gagner and Nugent Hopkins, the other Edmonton forwards are abysmal. Kassian has 8 points, but it would be hard to have less with all the time he plays with the two mega stars. The Edmonton defense is not really good with transition passing except for Klefbom and Nurse. Koskinen was very sharp or Detroit would have scored more. I'd imagine that Smith would get the nod tonight due to BTB road games.
Interesting fact. Edmonton had no Americans on their roster for last night's game.
