Not only did we fire our coach mid-season on both occasions, but on both occasions the job was filled by our AHL head-coach, who also happened to be American born! Both times we also went on to beat the caps in the 2nd round as well. I guess one other similarity you can probably draw upon is the fact that in 09 we beat the Canes in the ECF, who were a team from the South East Division, while this time around we beat the Bolts, who used to be in the South East Division as well!

The similarities in scenarios really are kinda crazy lol

The 08-09 Canes in that ECF also had a midseason coaching chance, fired Laviolette, hired Maurice. Pretty whacky.

1982, Canucks' coach Harry Neale gets suspended for 10 games and assistant coach Roger Neilson takes over, losing only once in that time. Neale ends up promoted to GM, and Neilson takes the team on an improbable run to the SCF.

Also the Penguins had a different coach in 1992 than they did in 1991 for their Cups. Bob Johnson passed away in November 1991 after being diagnosed with brain cancer that August and was replaced by Scotty Bowman.
