Unproductive for a 4th liner? Disagree. He was being paid to be more than what he is at this point. I don't see the harm in giving him a shot.

But I guess guys don't deserve second chances.

It just seems like more bad could come out of it than good. At best he's a cheap 4th liner, at worst he's useless on the ice, a bad influence in the locker and trouble away from the rink. But I guess a drug test, a physical and a camp tryout wouldn't hurt.

I'd give bugsy a tryout. If for nothing other than hope. I know he has issues. I know he's not what he once was. There is some nostalgia there, no doubt. But if he is actually capable of getting his **** straight and can regain a bit of his lost foot speed then he could really be a useful addition.

If he shows up to camp to tryout and knocks your socks off you offer him a minimum contract and see how it pans out. If he shows up and doesn't convincingly out perform other players then you walk away with a clean conscience knowing that you did try to give him a second chance and he wasn't prepared to make good on that opportunity.

I'm pretty sure he's a better hockey player than Craig Adams. A camp tryout or a league minimum contract pending a physical and/or drug test, it's worth a shot.

We picked up some tough players. But we could use a player with legitimate size on the wing.

I don't what whitney, he's what, older than our GM? Malone isn't in his prime, nor does he have to be as a 4th liner. He's big, he'll hit and he'll stick up for his team mates. He also goes to the net and has pretty good hands. For 550k or so I just don't see much in the way of it being a negative. Again as long as he's got his life together.

I don't want Malone, but I'm not opposed to the idea of bringing him back either.

And about Downie, someone in the last thread said this and he's right. Downie will not be a 4th line guy for the Penguins. Rutherford said he's "top 9" and Tocchet said he had a career year in Tampa playing with star players, he could see time with Crosby or Malkin. The guy has offensive upside, and he can be the enforcer on Crosby or Malkin's line. Man, adding Downie may be a blessing in disguise for this team.

I know Malones been in the city a few times since mid may. I also know he'd love to play here again. I don't know the Malone personally but an acquaintance of mine does. Of course, that isn't exactly a revelation that he'd like to finish his playing days with the Pens. The point is I really believe he'd do all he could to get one more chance here.

I'm definitely not in favor of bringing back Malone, but I could live with this scenario. Bring him into camp on a tryout deal and see if he's actually worth a damn on the ice.

If nothing else, Rutherford has set up for tough competition now to fill out that bottom six. No one's getting handed a job.

Oh man, this is tough. Bugsy is a shadow of what he was the first time around and now he's got legal trouble that certainly suggests deeper issues.

That said, if there is one place that he could come and possibly reboot himself and his career, it may well be Pittsburgh. I'm spit balling at best with this but maybe having his family around and being back home would be something that could get him back to taking care of business.

Assuming this is possible then he's worse case a better 4th line option than Adams that won't cost much and best case, a guy that adds grit and possibly chips in 20 goals while playing all over the line-up.

This could be a creative option, depending on what else shakes out.

No, I don't consistently wanna see Downie in the top six. On occasion, sure but that's about it. We've got to set our objectives and sites higher in that regard.

A UFA? I'm not so sure about that, but if so, you just offer him what you want to pay him and let him sit there until he signs it. He has zero leverage.

Pretty certain. He (Sutter) will have completed 7 NHL seasons by then. I'm pretty certain that if they dont' come to an agreement he'll file for arbitration. Good news is if he files, I believe the team gets to choose the term (1 or 2 yrs). So there is that.

He left after the 2008 Finals for the money to buy the best Florida nose candy, This team and Mike Johnston doesn't need that kind of a problem that Tampa probably had to distract them from the task at hand.

^^ The issue with arbitration is we can't then trade him, and assuming it's a 1 yr award (likely) he'll be a FA at the end of it.
I didn't realize that. I thought the trade restriction was just for matched offer sheets.

Is Jordan Nolan still expected to be the 13th forward in LA that he was in the playoffs? He hardly played at all down the stretch and in the playoffs, but I'm not sure who they're losing and what, if any, players are coming up from Manchester. He still seems like an ideal fit seeing that we need a 4th line LW with size that can drop the mits on occasion.

I'm pretty sure he's a better hockey player than Craig Adams. A camp tryout or a league minimum contract pending a physical and/or drug test, it's worth a shot.

Even without Malone I put Adams at 14th or 15th on the forward depth chart.

Yeah, Nolan might be a victim of the numbers game in LA.

Is he waiver eligible? If so, they might move him rather than risk losing him for nothing down the road.

No to Whitney. Would rather Alfredsson although he ran into health issues last year. So a little iffy on him but he'd be better than Whitney.

werent there rumors of neal being a party animal. and that we needed to rid that influence so the young guys on the team aren't effected.

why would they bring in malone?

Malone's an old buddy who would pull more weight in the lockerroom than he deserves at this point. Very low upside. Don't want him.

I would definitely consider Alfredsson on a last-gasp type of contract. But he'll either stay where he is or retire.
