Who would you rather have to start your franchise: Mitch Marner? Or Miro Heiskanen?

Relative to his peers, I think Marner is the better player and likely the higher upside (again, relatively speaking compared to his positional peers). But I'm always leery of building around a winger. IMO, center, then defense, are the positions I'd build around, then way down would be winger.

Ironically, I feel like both to players’ teams might be better off with the other given their depth at their positions and style they play.

Dallas could use a young stud offensive player who can really drive offense. Leafs could obviously use a stud all around #1D man.

For the Rangers I’m taking Heiskanen

Hiskanen. 21 year old stud defenseman don't grow on tree's. Plus he's very good in the playoffs as well.

Couldn't go wrong with either. Unless you're already loaded in either players position i suppose.

Marner. The kid is magic.

Both are great though.

There not at the same level but in 2015 when Toronto drafted Marner they also had a chance to select Hanifin or Provorov 4th overall and Defense was a need for the Maple Leafs at that time. However they still went with Marner because he was the best player available and maybe Mark Hunter's connection with the London Knights was also a deciding factor.

True but i would take Heiskanen over either of those two.

Marner is an elite talent, but Heiskanen is already an elite defenseman with upside of being a generational defenseman, so him.

I'm taking Heiskanen. I think Marner is relatively better, compared to his peers, but it's not an enormous gap and the positional difference is what sways me.

Would be interesting to see how a similar poll but with established vets would go.
Say Kane vs Keith both available at the draft.

Marney's likely a top 5 playmaker for years to come, but Heiskanen is probably gonna be a franchise level D-man (maybe top 5)... Always D>W if the talent is similar.
