Surprised no one posted this yet. Maybe a bigger offer makes Hextall think, but sounds like he's sticking around and won't be traded.

As long as the length is short and value isn't high. I'm totally fine with this.

Yeah, Hextall will do whats right, but he could be a good veteran 3rd liner once were contending....... Id be okay 4 years $10 million

So long as the cap hit is reasonable and the term is not over ~3 years that would be nice.

He is really a close to ideal 3rd liner (6th winger anyway) on a contender and is only 27.

Good skater, strong on boards, nice defensively, can PK, can play up and down line-up, can play multiple positions, good possession player and will likely get ~25 points a year even with 3rd line level line-mates. (which he showed in 2013-14 and this season)

I was very sceptical about Raffl in November, but since Hakstol took him off the 1st line he has shown that he can still be a valuable player on this team.

Eric Fehr had back to back 30+ point seasons and got a 3 year deal worth 2 million per season as a UFA last summer.

Raffl paced for 34 last year...24 this year.

Please be 2 million or under.

not a big fan of raffl unfortunately. he is slightly below average at everything except skating. the play is often killed when raffl gains possession, though lately he's been using his body more to create space which is nice to see. he's always placed in a finishing positioning and rarely is able to succeed. its even worse when you consider the massive opportunities he's been given with his usual linemates being some of the best players in the league. i think he's an excellent 4th liner if given the role, i hope he doesn't get too big a payday.

Fehr was recovering from surgery & was expected to miss some of the beginning of the year when he signed that deal. He signed it almost a month after free agency started too.

Keep it 2 or less and I'm fine.

He makes 1.1MM now, 2MM would be almost a 100% increase. Dude hasn't deserved anymore than that. I'm thinking it'll be 3/6

Power forward. Can play wing or center. Any line. makes sense.

Wouldn't call him a power forward...that implies offensive skill that he doesn't have. People really want to sign this guy for longer than 2 or 3 years? if he wants more than 2.5 million for 3 years, let him walk. He's not a top 6 player

Somewhere between 2 and 2.5 million should be reasonable. 3 years so he could still get a big contract afterwards if he desires.

He's never going to get a big contract, I don't see him getting better. His career will be a middle 6 player. Maybe like a 4/14 after this one, but they'll be a series of 2-4 year deals.

Andrew MacDonald averages $5 million/year
Sam Gagner gets $4.8 million
Umberger $4.6 million
Matt Read $3.625

And Wayne Simmonds avg. is only 3.95 per

I don't even know what a good contract is any more, so I'll be happy if it's $3 million/year or less

Hes what we were hoping Umberger would be for us. Im fine with giving him a couple years at 2mill or so AAV. Good role player for the bottom 6 and can slot into the top 6 when injuries strike. Also has chemistry with our top players and is well liked in the locker room. I just hope his play and drive doesnt fall off after his contract. Read was once well worth his contract.

Some can say that Read is still worth it. Value isn't always in goals and assists.

I think that could apply to Raffl too though, he's pretty good at sustaining offensive pressure, working the puck in the corners and behind the net, and some other stuff that doesn't show up on stat sheets.

Exactly. I don't think 3.6MM for what Read does is all that atrocious.

Our cap is crap because of guys like MacDonald and eating of other ridiculous contracts. Also Umberger.

Would not re-sign.

This would be yet another example of Hextall's overly severe aversion to promoting young prospects to the NHL lineup.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping Raffl and putting him in the 3rd line.

What we need to do is make sure our 4th line isn't useless heading into next season.
