There's no excuse for this, especially when the league sent out a notice to all teams. It reeks of incompetence.

They clearly did this on purpose to avoid a gameday flight to Nashville. No incompetence whatsover.... Snider will send Bettman and the PA a blank cheque.... We are only gaining if NHL deducts points... WHO CARES BUDDY?!?!?!

flyers did this on purpose. wanted to be with their family's on Christmas. decided to fly out on the 26th and knew they were violating the cba. Nothing but a fine.

This indeed may be a silly rule, but what everyone is overlooking is that this rule was established in the new collective bargaining negotiations. This was most likely player driven as they would be guaranteed 3 days with their families instead of 2. You don't believe management decided out of the graciousness of their stone cold hearts to extend the holiday? Based on the deal all of the players ratified, it's logical the players didn't care if they traveled on game day since they already had the 3 days off.
