I like Harper -- but I have doubts about him ever breaking into the NHL.

I hope everyone by now realizes it was a joke...

Harper does not have NHL potential. He did (theoretically) for like a summer when he was another longshot boom/bust after Holmgren signed him. When he played against others in camp, it was fairly clear he did not have the talent for NHL play.

If they are, we honestly have roughly 14m to work with AFTER signing Streit.

Offer sheet the universe.

Plus, at some point, they can exceed the cap by Pronger's $. Shedding Mez, Bryz, and Briere, is a lot of dough if they want it.

They can't pay their #6 defenseman 4M per season. One of Grossmann or Meszaros will have to be moved once Streit is signed. I hope it's the latter...

In any case, any potential trade partner will know that they Flyers have to shed salary which is not good at all.

Yeah, it was kind of obvious, but I still like the kid. I was just throwing in my opinion.

The contract is going to be ugly but if it allows the Flyers to keep Couturier and Schenn it is worth the salary cap LTIR dance.

Not really that ugly. Streit is only 35 and doesn't have that much mileage on him. He came over when he was 28 and played 8 seasons in which he hasn't really missed time due to injury (knock wood).

This move all but guarantees a buyout of Bryz. We can get under the cap buying out Briere, but we'll need to buy out Bryz to pay this contract and still sign/acquire another goalie and winger.

Grossmann becomes the 6.
Gustafsson will be the 5.
Streit and Coburn are 3/4.
Timonen and Schenn remain 1/2.

Everyone falls back into order. No more {Mod Edit} Coburn - Grossmann pairings.

Not if they trade Mezaros.

Hmm. Not sure how I feel about this. I am cool with acquiring Streit but I will hold judgment until I see the deal.

The Flyers are 2.5 million over the cap right now. Unless they lose salary between now and FA begins they cant sign Streit. Also they cant use Prongers LTIR money until the FA period begins.

True, but we can't really do anything until FA begins anyway.

LTIR Pronger
BUYOUT Bryzgalov
BUYOUT/TRADE Briere
DUMP Meszaros

That's 21.09m in space.

Kings fan coming in peace. Are you able to amnesty BOTH Briere and Bryzgalov? I thought you could only do that for one guy. Also, Matt Read for Jon Bernier swap?
