The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare to an NHL contract, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

A native of Paris, France, the 29-year-old Bellemare spent the last five seasons with Skelleftea of the Swedish Hockey League and posted 20 goals and 35 points in 52 games this past season.

He also appeared in the 2014 IIHF World Championships for France where he averaged a point per-game with three goals and five assists in eight games, including an assist and the game-winning shootout goal in a 3-2 upset victory over Team Canada on May 9 of the preliminary round.

Over parts of five seasons with Skelleftea, the 6-0, 196 pound Bellemare recorded 64 goals and 61 assists for 125 points in 238 games.

How does SHL scoring compare to NHL scoring, is this an addition for the 4th line?

Points wise SHL to NHL production is at about a 0.6-0.7 ratio I've seen some papers say. It should be noted that the SHL is a low scoring league in general.

Bellemare should be an addition with the ability to fill a spot on the 3rd. As Robin noted he has a good shot as well as good speed.

I wonder where they plan on putting him. He signed a NHL contract, one-way, two-way? I hope he is fourth line material so Rinaldo can float away on the Delaware.

Haven't caught any of him before. Is he likely to head to the AHL to transition to North American hockey, or go straight into the main club's bottom six?

Second goal in this one too

In this one he hits the post and then scores the only French goal

He seems pretty fast and has a nice shot

Good signing. Maybe the best two-way forward in SHL and never has a day off.

A funny thing is that he did an interview in Swedish and said " I have 100% focus every second day", instead of everyday. The reason why he said like that is because the words is are pretty similar in Swedish (varannan, varje)

Congrats for signing one of the best player from France :)

Bellemare is great defensively, nice speed, nice shot.
Is a warrior on the ice, hard worker.
Should be a nice 3rd liner, useful on the PK.

Seems like he should fit well with the Couturier line. Or help out our abysmal 4th line.

Wow, good signing. Hopefully he can bring something to the 3rd/4th line next year. Actually sounds like a better player than we would have had in Rasmussen!
