I don't know about units but it makes the value of a really good face off guy even more important.

Definitely. Puck possession will be the key to success: win the draw, move it around the offensive zone / up the ice, and hopefully blast it home. It will be interesting to see what the emerging successful strategies are, particularly as I would think teams rarely practice 3-man positioning. Yes, you have the occasional two-men-down case, but it would be less prominent than practicing the traditional box PK. And adding in 3-man offense is almost a blank slate.

Call me crazy but I can see Lecavalier being utilized here. He has a big frame and can usually hold onto the puck against one defender. There'll be a lot of room out there for him to do something and he won't be pressured as much as he does during real hockey.

Of course, it'll have to be at home where we have last change and the other coach hasn't put a speed line out there.

Getting ahead of myself probably, but I haven't seen too many players take advantage of open ice quite like Sanheim. 5v4 5v3 4v4 it was pretty much an automatic goal when he was out there.

Morin does well with the open ice as well. I don't think he'll be quite the force offensively as Gostisbehere and Sanheim, but defensively he takes up so much room and he's not afraid to lug the puck.

Giroux and Voracek are the obvious selections up front.
Double-shift G to win the faceoffs and rotate Simmonds and Read as wingers for the second unit.

It gets iffy when picking the D.
Personally, I'm not convinced Streit still has the skating ability to keep up with the speed 3 on 3. I'd go with MDZ.

Not sure how I feel about the 3 on 3 OT situation. But guys like Erik Karlsson on D just made their value go up a little bit more.

I'm all for double shifting Giroux if we get to OT.

Giroux-Voracek
Couts-Giroux

100% agree. With Berube gone at least we can say there is a chance of this happening.

I pray to god we don't see guys like Bellemare, Lecavalier and Umberger in ot like we did last year. Outside of the three you listed, Simmonds, Schenn, Raffl and Read are the only other forwards who should see the ice in OT

Do we have a choice though when it comes to double shifting G? Starting play without possession will be a huge burden and Giroux is the only guy you can feel good about taking those faceoffs.

If there's 90 seconds of play to start OT followed a D-zone draw, I don't think they're going to leave G out to take it. He won't have any energy to skate.
