Well, that would make some sense but Wotherspoon will probably play at least a year in the AHL.

Wotherspoon won't be ready for the NHL for a while so it's likely just a coincidence he was signed before the deadline/has no effect on what's going on currently.

since this contract doesn't start until next year I literally can't think of what this could mean.
