Pretty good game. The Flames didn't really give the oilers anything other than that fluke goal off the ref. Could've easily been a shutout for Marky. Really solid checking.
Gotta love putting a nail in the oilers coffin.
Edmonton is simply no good.

This is absolutely HILARIOUS to read right now. Aged like milk.

Oilers leaving Flames behind in Battle of Alberta - Sportsnet.ca

"Edmonton officially passed Calgary Saturday night, in both the macro and micro sense of the word.

The Oilers moved nine points ahead of the Flames in the standings and will not be caught by their rivals this season. In the bigger picture, Edmonton is where Calgary was supposed to be by now, well on their way to being a top-10 National Hockey League team with an long and bright future.

Calgary has been the better franchise for many years. They are not anymore, and are firmly in the chase position from this point forward.

Calgary’s a wild card team at best now, while the Oilers are well in contention for the Pacific Division lead.

It’s a big change in Alberta, and it won’t be changing back soon. "

2022 Cup to Calgary
Honestly scratch them both and bring up Phillips and Gawdin if their poor puck management continues

There is no reason a line with Lucic and Dube on opposite wings should be anything short of excellent. We saw what they could do with a no-triceps Bennett

If Mony can't cut the mustard move Dube to 4C and throw Phillips out there

Lucic can be a 5 min goon…..we kinda need someone for that. But I agreed he sucks at hockey, especially with someone that is slow and clumsy.

I really disagree Sutter rolls 4 lines, either you can play 12 minutes a night of solid hockey or you can't no in-between for this team. Lucic has looked cooked for a while now he needs to figure his shit out or sit. Beating the Oilers isn't an accomplishment it's the expectation but we can't let these bad habits continue for when we play good teams. Tonight lucic was the worst player on his line and probably the worst Flame he needs to wake up

Nice game from the home side. Don't really feel it was their best level but some quality individual performances and Markstrom standing tall made it seem like an easy win. Until the Oilers are not run by total idiots I cannot take them seriously whatsoever.

Great : Loved Coleman tonight. Gaudreau as well beastly, half expected him to beat up Yamamoto. Our third pairing was terrific in this one. Lindholm & Backlund draft only Swedish centers from now on. Markstrom, would have been a SO if not for that idiot ref. Toffoli this guy plays hockey

Good : Dube, really a nice defensive performance from Doobs. Mangiapane as well could have potted one or two if not for Koskinen. Andersson solid solid game in the dzone. Ruzicka what do you guys think we have here? I've liked him for a while, terrific vision and quality hands for a big man. Already better than Monahan.

Not bad : Monahan, competent C game from Sean. Slot coverage was much better than it has been. Tanev one gaffe but such a steadying presence. Tkachuk too many wild passes, but otherwise made some smart plays. Net drive caused the Toffoli PP goal.

Not good : Hanifin, made that one great diving play but otherwise thought his game was all over the place. Kylington sometimes gets a little ahead of himself, his skating allows for him to correct his own mistakes a lot of the time. Also whiffed on like 5 pucks. Lucic, three bad DZ turnovers. Lewis, has played great lately, but made it clear he is for the 4th line and 4th line only.

Bad : Discipline. Too many penalties from the Flames tonight. Becoming a bit of a trend. McDoucher and Lazy Leon

Watching the game tonight I said well looks like I may have to buy a Toffoli jersey, but damn I still haven't gotten a Lindholm or Mangiapane jersey yet.
I have a ton of Flames jersey's. First one was Joe Mullen #7 Last one I got was Blasty Tkachuk last year, but i had a blank jersey from a few years back that I put Backlund on in December.
I have too many Gaudreau, but really it's still not enough. Heritage Classic Giordano, a Monahan jersey from when he was fantastic.
Lots of Iginla's including a signed one, lots of Fleury's and a Kipper.
What about you all?

Got a retro white jersey from 1989 my dad kept and got signed by some of that cup winning team. Little tight since the about a year post COVID
A Kiprusoff 2005-06 that is too small for me now. An Iginla jersey with the awful Alberta patches and a Team Canada one of his. One from 2010(?) with a Lombardi nameplate(my GF at the time got it for me). The new away Tkachuk retro with Tkachuk's autograph, as well as Monahan's and Giordano's. And a retro Tkachuk home. Also a Flames worn practice jersey I'm actually not sure where it came from that I wear on the ice. I had a Blasty #13 Gaudreau jersey but gave it to a friend of mine.

I've got a buddy that I swear has every piece of Flames' paraphernalia from the last 20 years. Has a whole room in his house dedicated to it.

It's real interesting to look at two "Sutter players" in Toffoli and Coleman and how they are two ends to a mean. Toffoli is slower, but has this more calculated feel to his offense alongside a fantastic shot. He'll get a few chances a game but they're all grade A or elevated to a high level because of how effectively he can pick a corner. Then there's Coleman--complete balls to the wall player that is going fast, throwing the body, and playing elite defence. He also is a complete volume chance guy wherein he will throw 10-15 shots on net and a few will be great chances, but a lot of it seems like he is throwing the puck on net with some calculated goal in mind that assists in the pressure feel of a Sutter system. Point being--I thought about it and if you broke down the athletic attributes of each player, it is an easy decision to take Coleman. Fast, aggressive, physical, etc. but when you add in the shooting ability and sense to get open it's crazy how great Toffoli becomes, and that's with both of those guys being Sutter players in their own ways.

Otherwise, I enjoyed that game. If the Flames could add a Lehkonen-esque forward to the right side to complement Coleman and Backlund as a shut-down line, the only hole in the top 9 is Ruzicka and that's purely because he hasn't proven himself with offensive weapons. I feel if he gets a steady diet with Mangiapane and Toffoli, he is going to prove himself out of being a hole. Otherwise--could replace Lucic or Monahan and not be worse off. 2nd unit was woeful tonight. Dube brings a necessary speed to the attack in terms of the pressure of Sutter hockey. Monahan and Lucic really don't. The whole thought of Lucic - Dube - Phillips is fun but I feel, to some extent, Lucic is a lot more cooked than when we saw him work with Dube and Bennett. But that 4th line is seemingly the only big hole beyond Lewis's spot in the top 9. Just keep Ruzicka right where he is. The first pass he made to Toffoli was better than any pass he got from Monahan in the games prior.

I liked the Mangiapane-Ruzicka-Toffoli line last night. I hope Sutter keeps it together.

Reg Ruzicka, he needs more and more and more minutes. Roll that line for 5 games in a row and watch him.

Your comment reg Ruzicka is based on what exactly? You honestly don't see what the majority of us does? A hole in the top 9? Is that what you really see? Not proven? Define proven then, is Monahan a proven top 9 player? Can you see him leading that line? Good luck with that. It's ok bro, it's all love of course :)
