Gaudreau who was our leading points-getter 7 of 9 seasons and never dipped below 2nd in the other seasons (one of which was his rookie campaign)? Huberdeau who is 5th and a laughable 15 points behind Toffoli after cashing in? Those are totally the same
Huberdeau (Gaudreau) is having a tough 2022-23 (2021) season. Despite leading his team in scoring for 3 (0) consecutive seasons, where he scored at 94 (86), 91 (99), and 118 (72) point pace respectively, offensively it just isn’t there. Through 3/4 of the season, he is a woeful 5th (3rd) in team scoring being on pace for 54 (55) points. At 5v5 he is 3rd (8th, Gaudreau was actually 8th on our team in 5v5 scoring at this point) which shows promise despite poor usage. At the lowest point he was playing Lucic and Ritchie (different Ritchie) who he had 11 (0) points at 5v5 with. But then for the last quarter, things picked up. Huberdeau (Gaudreau) finally started getting better usage, through actually playing his natural wing (huge minutes boost, got paired with Lindholm and Tkachuk, and a coaching change to boot). From there, the points started to come.

Sorry you’re right, it’s crazy how different those situations were, like I almost didn’t realize Gaudreau was getting almost 2 minutes per night more than Huberdeau that year, with an extra 30 seconds of powerplay time a night.
