I remember people who were upset that Brad didn’t sign Mangi for a longer term deal than the one he got. It’s starting to look like a blessing in disguise that he didn’t. Mangi can definitely turn it around, but he’s been pretty brutal to watch this season
He cost us the game today indeed. At least a point anyway.

LOL even that waxy dummy is taking blatant shots at Sutter now

How embarrassing

That's multiple coaches that have publicly lampooned Sutter's "coaching" now. Bad look for the franchise and Treliving. Hopefully they're all turfed soon.

Did everyone saying we just pounded low danger shots on net watch the game, or just hear that criticism of our team and decide to pull it out every time we score 2 or less goals?

I’ve attached the shot map from the game, we had an insane amount of slot chances and gave the Oilers nothing all game. They got a lucky bounce off our defenseman (ironically the kind of play people lament our system for looking for) as well as a powerplay chance. This game came down to brutal luck with posts, and even worse luck with refereeing. A game we win 9 times out of 10 but tonight wasn’t the night. When Oilers fans are admitting they weren’t the better team tonight that says a lot.

The problem is we end up saying 9 times out of 10 we win that game a lot and we are running out of time to make those odds actually line up.

47 shots and only one goal against a shit goalie like Skinner is embarrassing.

Lucic may not have been overly effective but that line was still extremely effective with him on it which while inexplicable is undeniable tonight, Kadri and Huberdeau were flying and creating plenty of chances. Eventually that should be Ruzicka’s spot if he’s comfortable on his offside, but for now the more pressing issue may be Mangiapane. He continues to be a difference maker for all the wrong reasons. A demotion may be exactly what he needs to wake himself up, and Ruzicka worked extremely well with Backlund-Coleman. Ruzicka has been making our 4th line look offensively gifted, he deserves to move up right now and the opposite can be said for Mangiapane.

Selfishly, Harvard’s season needs to be a short one this year. Coronato could be exactly what this team needs.

Dube-Lindholm-Toffoli
Huberdeau-Kadri-Coronato
Ruzicka-Backlund-Coleman
Mangiapane-Lewis-Ritchie/Zohorna

We have no offensive talent. Almost every shot was directly at the goalies crest with no screen.

We need to trade Huberdeau and Eat Bread before their contracts are untradeable.

There’s a difference between looking at shot totals and saying just one more bounce maybe, and seeing a game where we struck the post at all the worst times and where the refs just decided one team had free reign. The shot attempts were 84-27 at 5v5 which is actually baffling. We made Draisatl and Mcdavid non factors tonight until Mangiapane happened. This truly was a night where if we play like that for the rest of the year we will be very successful.

Mangiapane needs to reinvent his game. I like that he’s close with lucic. Maybe that’s what is needed. Instead of being the bread man going forward, he needs to beef up massive and be Man’go’pain be man eating bread.

I cannot defend Lucic in the top 6. I’m as big a sutter fan as any but it’s infuriating when Lucic is out for the last 2:30 when you’re down a goal. I wonder if there’s more to this story, showcasing him for a trade or some sort of message he’s sending. Because Lucic has to be the most useless player on the team.

TBF, Lucic created that screen that allowed Backlund to hit the post.

That loss is on Mangi and his crap penalties. Blew the game for us and deserves the negativity. We already have Kadri who does the pest role better than you, just fall in line and learn how to shoot the puck again.

Skinner is not a shit goalie, his goals saved above average is well above most goalies in the league. That being said I do agree we should have been better at finishing.

He is not good. His stats so far this year look good but looking at his career he has never been more than average at any level he played. He is playing in Edmonton not because of his talent or what he has done but because they have been so terrible at managing goalies there is nobody else to play.

Our D is starting to play at an elite level again. Hanifin and Ras especially are back to being one of, if not the best, pairs in the league. Time for the forwards to start putting the puck in the net.

Really thought the Flames were the better team last night, and the D played very well.

Flames owned 70% of shots, chances and HD chances that game; not sure WTF people are talking about in terms not looking dangerous.

The difference is the game breaker, right? We don't have a McDavid that can just score a goal at any time in the game. Everything this team does seems laboured. It takes a lot to score a goal in Calgary, it has to work perfectly. We could really use another scorer now that Mangiapane essentially decided that he doesn't do that anymore.

Also funny in retrospect the people who wanted to hand out Mangi massive term and were shitting on Treliving for not doing it.

Yeah good sentiment, D core and goalie tandem look fairly elite right now, forwards have some good pieces but yep no game breaker. However if we can squeeze in as a wild card the division winners won’t want to play this team.

As disappointing as Gaudreau and Tkachuk were in the battle of Alberta for the most part, this would have been a game where they would have blown the doors apart. The Oilers conceded the centre of the ice all game and were icing the puck with almost every other breakout pass.

If this is what Huberdeau and Kadri are in year 1, the thought of what they're going to bring in year 3 is pretty depressing.

This was Weegar's best game actually and looked a cut above the rest of our D. We still miss Kylington's game-breaking speed really badly

Huberdeau gift wrapped 5 or 6 glorious chances for his teammates last night. I thought he looked phenomenal. That line may be playing well - but Lucic simply can't stay there.. He kills to many plays and his lack of skill and finishing ability is evident and it will continue to limit that line's production.

I agree we finally saw Weegar at his best. Sutter needs to trust him and allow him to activate more offensively. He may just be the best defender off of transition in the NHL. His ability to attack and defend his own blueline is incredible. Completely shutdown McDavid's speed through the neutral zone.

The team executed Sutter's gameplan to a T last night and we still lost. That's my concern, and it's certainly not the first time it's happened this year.

Some quick thoughts on last night (had to miss it live caught today, Ditto tonight's game):

- we took far too long getting shots off on the PP. Had really good possession and got them tired in our first PP with 8 min to go in the 2nd. Definitely should have scored and it would have been a tie game after 60 min). Just took way too long to shoot all the time.

- mangi with two penalties, guy isn't giving us points. Especially against Edmonton big no no.

- Hubes had a grade A chance in the 3rd passed to Toffoli. Guy needs to shoot more as we all know.

- other than that pretty even game and Marks played well.
