Because the GM in Nashville (with some others) said it killed the flow of the game and fans would leave while it was getting the dry scrape.

It did indeed kill the flow. Regulation would end and OT would begin and end quickly, everything would be moving right along toward a climax, and then suddenly you have this awkward wait where all the players stand around and watch the Zambonis. The clean ice didn't make enough of a difference to justify breaking up an intense finish.

Look at the standings dude. Youll notice the irrelevant panthers in a playoff spot with the Caps on the outside looking in.

Anyway last night was epic. Both goalies deserve alot of credit that is physically and emotionally draining.
as luongo (who right now should b the starting allstar goalie) said on twitter "i blacked out what just happened?"

Yeah, that came out wrong, I simply meant they weren't a divisional rival anymore.

Dylan Olson scoring with his chin-strap up on his lower lip.

I'm guessing that's hockey's version of a rally-cap?

This was a great shootout because players were scoring! Normally when SO's go long it is because nobody can put the puck in the net but here they scored quite a few sudden death goals. Very nice

ESPN Sportscenter is doing a thing right now where they are having a correspondent watch this entire shootout within them showing highlights/features of other sports (like with a split screen with a small box at the bottom showing the entire shootout playing out).

It's fortunate that Sportscenter loves shootout highlights so much but I guess it's better NHL coverage than them focusing on the mumps?

This one partially makes up for what seems like 100 times I have stormed out of the arena or flung the remote control across the room after yet ANOTHER Panthers shootout loss.

The Panthers have to be one of the worst SO teams since it was instituted.

We were overdue for something like this. :D

Maybe I will soften my "I hate the shoot-out" stance .... at least until we lose another one next week...

Holy Puck! This just made the NBC Evening News with Brian Williams!

They just showed a bunch of it and raved about the 40 shots of nail-biting shoot-out hockey and the previous record that held for 9 years ...

It's not very often that hockey makes the national evening news for something other than violence.

Yeah but think of the excitement a tie has... yeah

I sat through one that seemed like it lasted this long between Pittsburgh and Buffalo at Copps. The only two people who could score were Crosby and Vanek. I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone.

Second-worst winning percentage, and the largest number of losses by a large margin.

Calgary 36-47 .434
Ottawa 38-51 .427
Carolina 26-38 .406
Florida 44-66 .400
Philadelphia 27-55 .329

Florida is actually tied with Chicago and NJD for the most total shootouts, which kind of makes it worse.

I was pleasantly surprised by Willie Mitchell's attempt... he pulled a pretty nice move considering the length of his stick and the fact it was his first ever attempt.

And still we outplay you....

Errr, I guess if you call lulling the game into a shootout in the 3rd by shooting pucks 80 feet away from the net into Holtbys glove every rush "outplaying."

Game would of easily over if the referees didn't decide that 2 Panthers tripping Ovechkin in OT somehow canceled each other out.

I don't think any Florida fan would be surprised by this stat.

embrace your casual fan-ness.

Actually, it's got more to do with the fact that in a 20 round shootout, every player on the team has had a chance in the shootout. It keeps the team aspect of the team game alive and well in the deciding factor of the game. It's impractical and really unique to only this shootout, but at least it was there.

You can't tell me that Orpik and Mitchell weren't thrilled to have a chance to win the game for their team in the shootout, an opportunity they wouldn't normally have.
