This is the part where everyone pretends they're funny by saying things like "dominoes". After all that ******** washes away, can someone give a rundown of these two players?

IMO Brickley has bottom 6 potential.

Good wheels, loves to hit and put up 5 points in 23 games. (Put up decent numbers in the AHL)

His love for hitting got him in trouble penalty wise and with the coach(my guess).

Sutter's an AHL level grinder who just turned 25. He's played 12 NHL games and has not appeared in a box score yet. I don't think he'd have even played those 12 games if he had been in a system with ordinary forward depth.

I assume Brickley is a similarly worthless asset.

Brickley made the opening day roster last year.

Was all over the ice, and liked to finish his checks.

Had a couple dumb penalties(not dirty hits) and got sent down.

As was noted, Brickley actually looked good as a Panther, but took a couple bad penalties, got in Gallant's doghouse, and that was that.

It's an easy win for Carolina (though this is a very minor trade)

No, he's right. The "Dominoes" joke was killed to death by HF posters some 5 years ago.

Is this still ok?

brickley is an nhl caliber player. good skater, physical and has some offensive ability. he's the type of guy you want on your 3rd/4th lines.

dumb move by us. he clearly fell out of favor with our management for some reason, but not sure why.

Now people just come on here and act like they're better than everyone by calling them out for a joke that hasn't been used in a decade

Hasn't been used in a decade? It's unfortunately used all the gosh darn time. :shakehead

You especially must not have been privy to every minor Leafs transaction for the past ten years then.
I do not know too much about the other teams, but anytime the Leafs make a minor league deal, or sign a depth guy, or claim a guy off waivers hecklers come out in droves to mention "dominoes" and "parade routes" and "1967".

It's used less mockingly and more just plain sarcastically all over the Trade Rumors and Free Agent board though. That and "Who?" when it's a minor player.

"Dominoes" and "Who?" are probably my two biggest peeves on these boards.

Based on other moves and what I've read, seems like focusing too much on the analytics and removing the physicality in the org. That team looks softer than Charmin now.

Isn't Sutter physical too?

Sounds like Brickley was just in Gallant's doghouse. But still, not a reason to trade him for ****.

You know you can just ignore that kind of stuff if you don't like it, right?

Yeah Sutter has a bit of jam to his game. Good organizational depth move in that he's a guy that can step up and fill in as the #4C fairly easily and not kill you out there. Mind you that's about where he was 2-3 years ago as well so he's likely just flat out at his upside.

the nuisance is in having to wade through it to find constructive comments, which is what the first comment that mentioned "dominoes" comments was getting at.

I do feel a little guilty though, because then comments like mine clutter it up too.

So, to bring it back, personally, I like this for Carolina better.
I see more contribution coming from Brickley, and he can bring some jam to the organization, lost with Sutter. I don't see Sutter getting many games with Florida, but I can see Brickley getting a call on a young Cane roster trying to feel things out.
