Haggerty: Bruins final roster could feature big forward group

“They need to be comfortable, and not crapping their pants wondering what’s going on around them with 20,000 people in the building. What’s coach going to say? What’s my center iceman going to say that’s going to be a Hall of Famer?” said Cassidy, of his mantra for the younger B’s charges. “Whatever. They’ve got to play. They’ve got to be themselves and they’ve got to play. That’s the message that I think the coach has to find a way to get across. You’ve also got to bear in mind that there will be some butterflies for them.”

Heinen was arguably best forward last preseason then looked a bit overwhelmed

I'm not convinced Beleskey is done although looking through this I am the only one so far

I need to see him play regular season games

"That leaves three or four spots for a group that includes Sean Kuraly, Frank Vatrano, Noel Acciari, Matt Schaller and Austin Czarnik "

good ol Haggerty...:D
The media is just butchering names this week. Add this one to the list next to Dan O’Gara And Mark DeBrusk

Does anybody remember if Beleskey ever had success playing alongside Krejci? Or Spooner?
How did he put up 37 pts in his first season as a Bruin?

The team also had Eriksson, Connolly.....but Eriksson was on the Bergeron line ....

my memory is shot right now.... who did Beleskey play with that season?

Not sure. That was the season Spooner scored 49 points though, I would guess Spooner?

I'm sure looking forward to watching DeBrusk play for this team.

I think it's going to take some time for him to learn the NHL game. Krejci didn't come flying out the gates when he was called up. Hope the FO is patient and has realistic expectations relying on kids.

Patient? The Front Office will but he gets one shift on HF Boards

Beleskey may fall on his face but I've never seen this place root so hard for a guy to fail

Where were you when Chris Kelly was in Boston? Kidding.

Nobody is routing for Beleskey to fail. After the season he had last year, people were expecting him to shit or get off the pot this preseason. He looked a little better but not as hungry as someone like Heinen. I don't see Beleskey's situation much different than Hayes. They both sucked last year so fans don't like them. If he played well no one would want him gone.

It's always been like that playing in fish bowls like Boston and Montreal. With Dabrusk though I think its unfair to expect a kid with no NHL experience to produce out of the gate. Just hope he plays well and develops.

Same... But he needs to start scoring points soon.

he is on the way to bustland

because he looked the same in the preseason the way he ended last season

anybody remember who his linemates were the 1st season he played for the Bruins where he totalled up some ok stats?

I believe it was mainly Spooner and Hayes, with some time with Krejci and Eriksson when Pastrnak was down/at the WJCs.

Spooner was between Beleskey and Hayes that year - and had the best production of his career (so did Beleskey).

No, Belesky spent the first 2/3 of the year with Krejci, when he was added the the line with Spooner and Hayes his production went in the tank, no coincidence.

Hayes that year had something like 75% of his production in the bank by New Year's.

That line stunk EVERY time it was ever put together. Much like Belesky-Spooner-Backes is going to stink for reasons already outlined in other threads.

I doubt anyone is rooting for him to fail. The GM who massively overpaid him is the real failure. I don't blame Belesky for taking the money. He had to know he wasn't worth it and likely couldn't believe someone was stupid enough to offer that kind of cash.

Only real surprise is Gryz getting the spot to stand in for Krug. Rest could have been penciled in before hte pre-season and been correct.

I would agree. I'm hoping he bounces back. But in big cities like NY and Boston, you either produce up to your contract or you're the nail that gets hammered. He simply didn't do that. I don't personally hate him, but if you're going to be making almost $4 million, you better have significantly more points than 8.

I said this either in this thread or another. The "competition" we thought was there seemingly wasn't. The best player of the non-veterans was Czarnik and he's unlikely to make it the team it seems. Beleskey was clearly out played by a bunch of different guys. The rest I'm fine with. I will say in their defense, no one really took the bull by the horn. ROG, Zboril, Lauzon were all kind of meh and the forwards had a similar story. It's also a number and waivers thing.

This is the gist of what I meant to say. He may not be a bust but if Sweeney gets rid of him then he admits it. I also think more people rooted for Kelly, Eriksson and Spooner to fail. Sweeney has to bite the bullet and hope Beleskey gets back to who he was. Beleskey on the 4th line is due to his contract, not his performance, he was out played. That's a pricy 4th liner, rather have cheaper options with a better ceiling learning the pro game bottom up, then him taken a guaranteed spot.

This. I don't think MB is done yet. From all accounts he's a proud guy.

His injury really hampered him. He was slow before he got hurt and after he just couldn't keep up.

I could see a bounce back year if he's healthy.

But a line of MB RS DB is set up to fail. They are not skilled enough to break the puck out of their own end.

I would go with something like this

BM BP DB
JD DK DP/AB
MB RS DP/AB

Spooner needs to play with a guy that can keep up with him.

You may want to check your facts before posting inflammatory nonsense.

ANA offered less term, but more money per year ($4m/4 years).
