We should consider ourselves lucky. Imagine if Filppula's contract ended LAST year. We would have happily paid him 5 Mil, now he is worth 3 or less.

UFA will give him something inbetween these numbers on the hopes he will produce like lastyear... which looks like he wont.

I suppose that he could be injured (perhaps even badly)... apparently along with the rest of our forwards who aren't scoring when the team needs it most.

Not sure how many guys we could legitimately apply the "he might be playing while injured" excuse to before we may have to acknowledge that this team just isn't playing good. Certainly not realgood.
