I and some others were saying his play style
is similar to Malkin, which it is. That doesn’t mean his skill level or ceiling is the same as Malkin.
Yeah...I'm one of those who compared his game to Malkin, but I said it's without his hands or blistering shot....those are 2 pretty important aspects of malkins game.

Exactly why I think there are better comparisons because his hands and shot is what makes Malkin - Malkin. I like Kopitar stylistical comparison better because of it.

I think Chytil has the potential to be a very good player. The part I’m not as certain about is just how good.

I can easily see him in a top six role, but don’t yet feel comfortable saying I see him as an ideal first line center.

Personally, I was a little surprised he made the team out of camp.

As @Bozle said we need to remember that Chytil is barely 19. For all intents and purposes this should’ve been his D+1 year. The amount of potential room for him to grow is what makes a possibility of 1C completely realistic. To me top6 is just a floor.

Okay, just to be clear......I wasnt the one that compared him to Malkin (read it somewhere here though). We shouldnt be getting crazy with the comparisons......but there certainly seems to be a "skill set" that seems to be different than anything we have had around here for a while now. (Talent?) I say that in jest......yes, I have high hopes for the kid, but I am indeed optimistically cautious. Just thought this thread was a necessity and elated that I was right.
Gonna guess that Howden will be sent down before his 9 games are up, unless he really lights it up and even then probably should, but happy to watch him get some nhl time.

Neither Hajek, nor Howden is slide eligible this season. Lias and Chytil are.

I can’t disagree with any of that. Just that even the range of first line centers is pretty diverse.

There are some great centers out there that everyone knows, who aren’t really first line centers. Likewise, there have been many first line centers out there who someone will mention and you find yourself saying, “Oh yeah. I guess he was/is a first line center.”

So for me, there’s a certain curiosity as to where Chytil ends up. My gut tells me he’s a guy you’d love to have as a second line center behind a higher end first line center. Not to say he can’t play that first line role, or would be bad at it. But in an ideal world, he’s the guy playing behind the type of guy everyone hopes the Rangers come away with in 2019.

Is Fil a rookie this year?

Yes, and to answer your next question he will not win the calder trophy. Here's a list of first-round pick, calder-eligible players currently on their team's current 23-man roster:

Someone mentioned that Chytil will end up being better than Hayes this year.......so continuing on that.
If that becomes the case, then this season should become a lot more intersting to watch. Imo, Hayes is primed for an outstanding season. Already in the 1st game, Hayes made some amazing plays [primarily to Vesey). If Hayes had ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE that could put the puck in the net on both sides of him......he'd accumulate 80-90, especially now playing on the PP. We only have 2 decent players that can make real offensive plays (Zbad and Buch), so we cant do that unless 1 moves to the wing.
Seems the writing is on the wall for Hayes or Zbad, if Filip and Howden progress the way we want.

Wait you think Hayes could be an 80-90 point scorer, what?

I’d say 75-85 but I don’t find that too outlandish. He should have had at least 2 assists the other night. He gets the game, especially from the offensive side of the puck.

If Chytil sticks, and in a 3rd line spot he should, it will be fascinating to see his game 20 games in. The nhl is the right spot for him, he seems to adjust quickly to the league he’s in. I think he’ll figure out quickly what types of plays he can or can’t make and I expect he’ll be more assertive then. The experience will make him better defensively too. We don’t need him toying with ahl D at his point.

Spot on I’m hoping he’s our 2C for a long time behind a Hughes Dach type
