Realized this may have been poor wording, sorry. what is the worst single season career high in points for a 1,000 point scorer?

Maybe with a joint effort we can find this. I was looking at Shane Doans stats and he is close to 950 points. His career high for points in a season was only 78. I'm curious if anyone has a lower number?

There are 83 players with 1,000 points. One that came to mind for me was Ray Whitney, but his career high is 83 points. Lidstrom's career high was 80.

Do you mean worst career high? Because your title suggests, to me, what was the worst season a 1000 point player ever had.

Yes, the bolded title in the thread says it better, I read it again and realized it wasn't worded correctly.

Yes, what I mean is what is the worst career high for a single season in points for a 1,000 point scorer.

from a quick scan of likely candidates it looks like the current record is held by dale hunter: career high of 79 pts, 1020 in his career.

Looked through some players as well and I think the answer is Dale Hunter. Don't see how anyone could get 1000 points and have less than 75 points as a career high.

I'm still a little tired - so you mean a player who scored 1000 points... and of all 1000+ point scorers - their best season is the worst of those players?

So basically who is the most 'average' of 1000+ point scorers?

Funny that Henri Richards career high is only 1 point higher than Dale hunters.

Near as I can tell you're right about it being Hunter, but his high was actually 79 (1983-84, and 1992-93).

I mean, I'm sure there's been 1000 point players that were injured one season and had like 20 points.

My immediate reaction was "Dave Taylor". Looks like it took him 17 seasons to get to 1069 points, that's 62.8 points per season. Of course he only averaged 65 games per season played.

nevermind, totally misunderstood question. haven't had any caffeine yet.

now that I understand the question, Chelios would've come close but he didn't quite make it to 1,000. Career high was 73 points, and he only ever reached 70 points 3 times. Doesn't strictly qualify for the OP but it's interesting to me anyway.

Obviously you have to remove injury plagued seasons and find someone who played 80 games. I cannot remember who it was but one of the Northeast teams and I'm almost sure it was NJ, Rangers or Pitt had a child pass away just before the seaosn started back in the early to mid 90s and he was one of the more elite guys. He ended up playing the entire season and was just downright atrocious relative to his career, maybe 10-15 points total and I clearly remember it being talked about. Whether he was a 1,000 point career guy I don't know but probably very close to it.

Jaques Richard Hit 103 points once never more then 50 in any other season.

He looks to be the answer. I think Hakan Loob is probably 2nd on the list. I've gone through a lot of the 100 point list now.
