That's brutal. I lost $50 on a crummy Kickstarter gadget and I was pissed.
You think Jack Johnson was bad...
His friend was a guy in Florida who was selling fake investments in Saudi oil and claimed (falsely) that he had ties to the Saudi royal family.Who knows what kind of "ties" his close friend had. Doing business in Russia is very different from the rest of the world. Or did this happen in the US? Sad situation.
Johnson was deceived by his own parents, that's worse than an individual who didn't have a life connection with you. Also Johnson lost more than all the money he made.
Just talking in strict amounts here.

I'm sorry, but how did NO ONE get suspicious about it? Also link?
A lesson to everyone, the only one you can trust with your money is yourself. Educate yourself financially, and don't put all your eggs in one basket
Yeah. He sued his former financial advisor for stealing $43M from him (or about what $81.2M would be after taxes/fees) and won. Of course, he's unlikely to ever see anywhere close to that money.

good lord how naive, he's probably too embarrassed to admit he also sent money to the daughter of a deceased Nigerian prince
Federov is also a celebrity in Russia the way Gretkzy is in Canada. He can make millions a year off his name alone.
I'd love to see a Russian version of the Pro-Star cartoon. Instead of Gretzky, Jordan, and Jackson, it could be Federov, Sharapova, and the Klitchsko brothers. 15 minutes an episode would be devoted to discussing the imperialism of the West and why the annexation of the eastern parts of the Ukraine was really a defensive move.
