GZA - Gold (Verse 1)

I'm deep down in the back streets, in the heart of Medina
About to set off something more deep than a misdemeanor
Under the subway, waiting for the train to make noise
So I can blast a n**** and his boys, for what?

He pushed up on the block and made the dope sales drop
Like the crash in the Dow Jones stock
I had a connect to cross-sales, to catch more mill's
Than ho-bitches got birth control pills

I'm in the park setting up a deal over blunt fire
Bum n**** sleeping on the bench, they had him wired
Peeped my convo, the address of my condo
And how I changed a n**** name to John Doe

And while we set up camp, we got vamped
Put the stake through his heart, I ripped his f***ing fangs apart
Snake got smoked on the set like Brandon Lee
Blown out the frame like Pan Am Flight 103

He got swung on, his lungs was torn
A kingpin just castled with his rook and lost a pawn

A regular on the block that played lookout
For preying predator with a Glock, he should have took out

Fabolous

I just feel like life is hot and cold
Ups and downs, back and forth
Wins and losses
It's gon' be some sunshine and it's gon' some rain
And when it rain, it pours
But ask yourself, can you weather the storm until the sun shines again?

The Edmund Fitzgerald sank November 10, 1975.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee.

The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead when the skies of November turn gloomy.

Does any one know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay if they'd put fifteen more miles behind her.

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat

Want a reason? How's about "Because"?
You ain't a has been if you never was.

I started listening to Pink Floyd when I was around 18. Two lines really resonated with me:

"And all you touch and all you see / Is all your life will ever be" ("Breathe")

"The memories of a man in his old age / Are the deeds of a man in his prime" ("One Two Free Four")

My interpretation all those years ago (which hasn't really changed since) is life is the sum of your actions and experiences, so go out and start living before you're too old to enjoy it.

He asks me once if I'd look in on his dog
You made an offer for it, then you ran off
I got this picture of us kids in my head
And all I hear is the last thing that you said
"I listened to your problems
Now listen to mine"

The way they're sung plays a big part too.

With regards to Pink Floyd, Time has some lyrics that have resonated with me throughout the years.

“You run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking.
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older.
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death”

Those lyrics meant nothing to me when I first started listening to Pink Floyd (around 18?) - but they've definitely becoming heavier with each passing year.

I have a friend who's only joy in life
Is to skate, surf and flog his log
That is all he wants to do
And I think that's really great
But then one day he had an accident
They had to amputate his arms
Guess if he was sad that day

He can't surf (can't surf)
He can't skate (can't skate)
And he sure can't masturbate no more

That one day he had an accident
They had to amputate his arms

Guess if he was sad that day
