Do you realize
That everyone you know someday will die?
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes
Let them know you realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Rise Against - Disparity By Design

If we just take a step back
A bigger picture we might view
Perhaps the man in the gutter
Is not so different from you

Batman got on my nerves
He was running me amok
He ridiculed me, calling me a bum

I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass

Batman thought he was bad
He was a f***ing asshole in the first place
He got knocked to the floor

I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass

Batman beat the hell out of me
and knocked me to the floor
I got back up and knocked him to the floor
He was being such a jackoff

I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass
I wupped Batman's ass

We're only living in the memories of our future selves.
And it's fun to think like we're here right now.
But we never really are 'cause we're somewhere in the future controlling the options.

Giving lots of hints to ourselves, in order for us to understand,
that choice is still important
in a world where we gotta figure some stuff out... yeah.

Reggie Watts might seem like totally rambling nonsense at first listen, but when you become more familiar with him and his comedic/musical style you find out that he's actually a very intelligent and talented musician.

Maybe time running out is a gift
I'll work hard till the end of my shift
And give you every second I can find
And hope it isn't me who's left behind

It's knowing that this can't go on forever
Likely one of us will have to spend some days alone
Maybe we'll get forty years together
But one day I'll be gone or one day you'll be gone

- Jason Isbell "If We Were Vampires"

Is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with
Cuz I've seen more spine in jellyfish
I've seen more guts in 11 year old kids
So have another drink and drive yourself home
I hope there's ice on all the roads
And you can think of me when you forget your seat belt
And again when your head goes through the windshield

Pretty good yeah, I often find myself singing this, but... I can't stand that original version. This short one has so much more impact:

As for me... (all from different songs)

Later I think I'll disappear into another womb and take a look inside the mens' room

My smile is a rifle and I'm pointing it at you

Life's a bath, sex is water

Mankind can keep alive thanks to its brilliance in keeping its humanity repressed

I laughed at love 'cause I thought it was funny

I could go on for miles... and so many good ones in French too, the whole Gainsbourg catalog.

Roses are worth more dried than alive...
Such a "you" thing to say...
Oh how I adore you when you reinvent
The rosy cliché.

I picked up my bag
I went looking for a place to hide
When I saw Carmen and the Devil
Walking side by side
I said "Hey Carmen, come on
Let's go downtown?"
And she said, "I gotta go
But my friend can stick around"

I can't think of a serious answer right now, but for some reason this was running through my head all day:

"I started swearing to my god and on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore that I would love you to the end of time!

So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive"

Pretty much the entire catalogue of New Model Army and Tocotronic, Bad Religion to a lesser degree. I'm a sucker for good lyrics. Sometimes I believe they are more important than the music.

The roll of distant thunder breaks, the afternoon of silence wakes
They hurry through from Petergate as if they know this dance
In fury blind, I drive at night across the moors, the open roads
Beneath the freezing starry skies, racing in some trance
These cities are illusions of some triumph over Nature's laws
We've seen the iron carcass rust and buildings topple into dust
And as the waters rise, it seems we cling to all the rootless things
The Christian lies, technology, while spirits scream and sing
Oh God I love the world
Well I never said I was a clever man but I know enough to understand
That the endless leaps and forward plans will someday have to cease
You blind yourselves with comfort lies like lightning never strikes you twice
And we laugh at your amazed surprise as the Ark begins to sink
This temple that is built so well to separate us from ourselves
Is a power grown beyond control, a will without a face
And watching from outside I wish that I could wash my hands of this
But we are locked together here, this bittersweet embrace
Oh God I love the world
And if one day the final fire explodes across the whitened sky
I know you've said you'd rather die and make it over fast
With courage from your bravest friends, waiting outside for the end
With no bitterness but an innocence that I can't seem to grasp
I know somehow I will survive - this fury just to stay alive
So drunk with sickness, weak with pain, I can walk the hills one last time
Scarred and smiling, dying slow, I'll scream to no one left at all
I told you so, I told you so, I told you so . .
Oh God I love the world

I've been listening to a lot of Kris Kristofferson:

And there's no need to stay and see
The way it ends
It's over
Nobody wins

He's a poet, and he's a picker, he's a prophet, and he's a pusher
He's a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he's stoned
He's a walking contradiction, partly truth and mostly fiction
Taking every wrong direction on his lonely way back home

Well I woke up Sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, so I had one more, for dessert

On the Sunday morning sidewalks, wishing Lord, that I was stoned
Cause there's something in a Sunday, makes a body feel alone
And there's nothing short of dying, half as lonesome as the sound
On the sleeping city sidewalks, and Sunday morning coming down

If you waste your time a-talking to the people who don't listen,
To the things that you are saying, who do you think's gonna hear.
And if you should die explaining how the things that they complain about,
Are things they could be changing, who do you think's gonna care?

Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night

But dreaming was as easy as believing it was never gonna end
And loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again

Lord help me, Jesus, I've wasted it so
Help me Jesus I know what I am
But now that I know that I've needed you so
Help me, Jesus, my soul's in your hand

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops
Blow softly against my window
Make believe you love me
One more time
For the good times

This lyric is always germane to a beleaguered Leafs fan:

Baby you wanna give me kisses sweet, only for a night with no repeat, baby you wanna leave and never call, oh but the taste of honey is worse than none at all. - Jerry Garcia

I was a sailor, I was lost at sea
I was under the waves
Before love rescued me
I was a fighter, I could turn on a thread
Now I stand accused of the things I've said
Love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
I used to make love under a red sunset
I was making promises I was soon to forget
She was pale as the lace of her wedding gown
But I left her standing before love came to town
I ran into a juke joint when I heard a guitar scream
The notes were turning blue, I was dazing in a dream
As the music played I saw my life turn around
That was the day before love came to town
When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
I was there when they crucified my Lord
I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice when they pierced his side
But I've seen love conquer the great divide
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
