I really miss the North Stars. I loved their green jersey's

Me too. I am so SICK of black. The only teams who should be allowed to wear black are the Bruins and Penguins. End of list.

All teams who have adopted black for purely marketing reasons should have to revert back to their old jerseys. That would be awesome. Dallas in the old Minnesota green. Buffalo back to their gold and blue. The Kings back in gold and royal purple. And if I could come up with a reason to switch Washington back to their old unis I'd throw that out there too.

As an added bonus Calgary, Chicago and Philadelphia couldn't wear their 3rd jerseys anymore, all of which are ugly anyway. Chicago should wear red, Philly should wear orange. Period.

I'll second that, I always play(ed) my EA sports NHL xx series games with the old jerseys from the 80s/early 90's.

What is your favorite former NHL team? Moved, folded, merged whatever. If there is a team that is no more, it qualifies. What is your favorite?
Pittsburgh Pirates. I love to rub them in the faces of the so-called hockey fans who think the NHL began with the misnamed "original six" and also to show that Pittaburgh has a longer hockey tradition than most Canadian cities. At leaasy NHL wise

The Sharks emerged from the North Stars - meaning, the Sharks owners took 1/2 the Stars roster and began their team in San Jose. Minnesota moved to Dallas.

The reason that 1/2 the North Stars became the Sharks was that the original franchise merged with Minnesota in 1977.

As Ogopogo stated the San Jose Sharks were awarded a fair number of the North Stars prospects (I don't think they got any NHL roster players out of the deal) but they were able to select some players as it was one of the owners of the North Stars that was the founder of the Sharks, or something to that effect.

I don't believe that actually, the reason being that Brett grew up in the same neighborhood as quite a few family members, and they all remember him being a little tubby to say the least when he was around that age. I guess the area would be around the north shore in the greater vancouver area.

Actually before they moved from Toronto they were in the same neighborhood as some greats like Kennedy. I am so envious of them for that fact alone.
Yeah in Brett Hull's 'auto'-biography he said he tried many times, but could never hit the Queen.

A Vancouver team won the Cup in 1915, Winnipeg won the Cup 3 times between 1896-1902, and the Edmonton Eskimos were Cup finalists in 1908, 1910, and 1923. A Calgary team challenged for the Cup in 1924.

Sorry, rub what in our faces?

In their 1st season (1991/92) San Jose had seven guys, who had played some games for the North Stars the year before: Perry Berezan, Mike McHugh, Neil Wilkinson, Rob Zettler, Pat MacLeod, Brian Hayward and Jarmo Myllys.

Altogether Sharks got 24 players from Minnesota's reserve list and an additional 10 players from the other NHL teams' unprotected lists in the Expansion Draft.

I like the Nordiques because of all the good stories my dad told me as a kid. All the brawls with Montreal.

a natural rival for the battle of quebec with my beloved habs

they had some classic battles
if you grew up in the quebec/montreal/ouatatais region you were a fan of one or were just torn between both

I miss the Quebec Nordiques and Alain Cote and Michel Goulet's porno star mustache's.

I miss the Winnipeg Jets because back in the day when the Devils would play the jets out in Winnipeg, Sports Channel was so cheap that they didnt send Gary Thorne and Peter McNab out west, thus those games were never televised.

How many cities does Canada have? 6 major. Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Halifax all have roots with the Stanley Cup before Pittsburgh came into the picture. Sorry to burst your bubble. :(

The Miami Screaming Eagles. Signed Bernie Parent, as I recall...and then folded before they ever played a game.

One of many nomadic and erstwhile WHA franchises.

Ogopogo - my memories of the Seals: They had an absolutely anonymous fringe winger named Morris Mott in the early 70s. For some off-beat reason, a band of fans in the Rangers cheapseats (the blueseats; they were cheap then, I suppose) took to fashioning the Morris Mott Fanclub. Had banners, the works made up for the one time each season that he and his Seals came to town. That lasted about 2-3 seasons, the length of his career.

Other memory: Seals had a goalie named Bob Champeaux (pronounced "shampoo"). Guess funny names linger in a youngster's mind.
Trottier, I actually remember Morris Mott. If I'm right, he played on the old Canadian National team, when the Europen 'amateurs' wouldn't play against NHL pros. The team was run by Father David Bauer. I believe Carl Brewer left the Leafs and played for them one year. I didn't know about the fan club. We did something similar in the early 70's. The Jr. Canadians had an extremely average defenseman named Raymond Bibeau, who we decided would become our hero. We'd chant his name and go nuts when he came on the ice. He was always looking up to the rafters of the Forum trying to figure out who and why, he was suddenly so popular.

The term original 6 applied to the 6 teams in place thru 1967-68 expansion and forward. No one claims them to be the original founding members.
