In summary, we tore it down and drafted some fantastic talent in the 1st and 2nd rounds of the draft with the likes of Anthony Mantha, Samuel Morin, Bo Horvat, Arturri Lehkonen, Steve Santini, JC Lipon, and Eric Roy to our prospect pool, to go along with guys like Brett Connolly and Martin Frk who we acquired through trade.
In terms of forwards, we moved out Blake Wheeler and Andrew Ladd. They performed well as Jets, but we weren't sold on them long term. Cory Conacher has tons of potential, and we are thrilled to have him on board. We also think David Jones just had an off year, and we are thrilled to have wearing a Jets logo. We also added a young centreman in Joe Colborne, and we think adding Scottie Upshall and Mike Santorelli on that line with him will make for great chemistry. We added depth with Torrey Mitchell as a very solid 13th forward. Tim Connolly still has offensive game, and at a 1.5M$ price tag, we felt he was worth it.
Our defence is, obviously, worse than it was going in. However, we have added Ed Jovonovski - we know his injury history is not good, but we're confident he can regain his form and provide solid leadership on a young team. We've also added young defencemen in Brendan Smith and Keith Aulie whose best hockey is in front of them, and Mike Komisarek will be an asset as a bottom pairing guy.
Nikolai Khabibulin is coming home to where it all started, as we are looking at Edward Pasquale as our possible backup next season depending on his performance in the AHL this year.
Overall, we tore it down and re-tooled enough that we think we can be a tough out against any team, though our expectation is that the next few years will be growth and development years more than anything.
