How the f*** do you blame Treliving for this when the guy deep inside wanted to go to Philly all along, and never was open enough about it to the team because he didn't want to seem like the bad guy? He always gave the impression that he didn't like how he's always recognized in Calgary. There's nothing wrong with that, but don't handicap your team into thinking you were open to staying one bit.

Pretty shit day for the Flames and us fans. We gave all the opportunity for him to become a star in this league, and treated him and his family like royalty, and this is what we get in return.

And it will hurt to see your franchise player leave, but if $6 million JG couldn’t help win a cup, $10 mil JG was never going to win a cup. this is best for everyone involved. Calgary needs to trade Tkachuk and tear it down. There will be pain but you have no choice now.

No one should defend this guy, forget keeping Gaudreau, Gaudreau spent 8 full years here and had a good coach for 1.3 years. Treliving never built a good enough team around him.

Also, if the rumored offer for Tkachuk for the 2nd overall was on the table and Tre didn't take it and was waiting for Gaudreau to sign and now we trade Tkachuk for less (because we will), that's brutal asset management.

He’s gambled on this core and lost a ton of assets for nothing. Always letting “circumstance” dictate those losses and then gambling further. It’s always funny how despite it “not being his fault”, we’ve lost a top pair and a franchise winger for nothing in just the past 3 seasons.

I’d be stunned if tkachuk is staying at this point.
