Uninjured, he would have paid it. EK was way more valuable to him here. An uninjured EK would have spent 012/2013 to 2017/2018 putting up 80 plus points, accumulating 2-3 more Norris awards and having a darling status that was unreal. He would have had 6-7 rock solid years left. So Eugene would have had little to worry about.

EK would have put 2000-3000 asses in seats. That is ~ 9 million dollars. He would have more or less paid his own salary. Now any playoff success was Eugene's. Any merchandising: Eugene's, any media revenue: Eugene's..

Eugene is no dummy. He hung on to him and wanted to sign him. But EK wanted to be paid, all the while his body was failing him.. The Euge has more Doctor friends than we have socks, you don't think most shook their head when Eugene asked about EK?

Eugene is annoying. But on this issue, our gripe is with one Matt Cooke. And Cooke did not take Eugene's most prized possession, he took ours. And asking Eugene to pay $11.5 for 50-60 games per season and 40-50 points is insane. It would not have been long before we started criticizing the signing.
