It’s not revisionist history . The point is you can find players like DeMelo every single offseason for cheap, and many people on this board said that at the time. There’s no reason for this team to sign guys like that long term. He has 0 goals and 3 assists this season. You can find guys like that very easily. In the offseason they can get another cheap Zub type to replace the departing Gudbranson, Reilly, Wolanin, etc

If they are so easy to find, why can we not find more of them?

Some people think that they are making a reasonable point in saying Player X will only be here one year. Well, many/most of the deals this offseason were for one year deals. So, that isn't really an unique or good reason. Some might even call it an excuse.

I believe the guys like him and I respect that. But I doubt any opposing players are circling Erik gudbrannson in their pre game talks and factoring him into their strategy

Is it really too much to ask to have a dman that can play physical and who doesn't trip over the blueline or get undressed by freaking Perry?

I sure am glad to hear the guys like him in the locker room and that when DJ asks around other teams say they don't like getting cross checked by him, but this guy is well past the best before date. Would have rathered we kept Boro and the deal he signed, that would have had the side benefit of not needing freaking Brown just to expose at the expansion draft and we'd have saved a 5th round draft pick.

Juat feels like people are reaching to justify acquiring him. Nice guy I'm sure and it's not his fault we are slotting him above where we should, but he's been disapointing.

I'm sure Corey Perry wouldn't mind seeing Guddy in a 1 on 1 again...

Yeah. It reminds me of an old quote about Scotty Bowman: "His players hated playing for him 364 days a year. On the 365th day they got the Stanley Cup."

Players may not like playing against Gudbranson but at the end of the game they're happy they won in large part because he's bad. Not being liked by the opposition should not be the goal here.

Florida fan and Gudbranson follower coming in peace.

Guds will never be more than a longterm number 5 or 6, even though he was drafted at the 3rd spot. His skill level is just too low and never really improved - besides having the bad luck to always play for bad or mediocre teams. Nevertheless you wonder why this guys already has over 500 games and counting. His on ice play definitely is not the main reason.

This makes me think of a scene I spotted at a FLA game when he was still playing for us. FLA was trailing by one goal in the last minute of the game when they called a timeout. And it was Willie Mitchell and Guds with the drawing board showing the players what to do - not the coaches!

Now naturally that can of course speak of the incompetence of the coaching staff, we all know the bad record of this team.
But the guys seemed to listen. And they just do that when they are convinced that you know your hockey. This understanding of the game plus leadership abilities will make him a better coach than player one day... too bad that this does not translate to his play on the ice.

We as fans probably got to hear 1/10th of the crap that went on in the dressing room with the drama and the clicks there is no chance they wanted guys like Boro who let that shit fester and probably helped things escalate.
They are all gone now and for good reason. The main part is his team likes him and he is a good guy.
The team is not ready to win the rebuild is like half over who cares how many games he helps win

Gudbranson is better than Coburn, J. Brown, Reilly, Wolanin & Brannstrom right now. He is the go to guy on the PK before any of those guys & is the best big physical defenceman they have. He's also a UFA & I suspect might get moved by the deadline, but I bet there is also an outside chance that he could be re-signed since there isn't really anyone else who is as physical on defence right now.

Him and Brannstrom are good partners for each other. If we could find a way to combine them we’d end up with a Victor Hemdan.

Reaching

Getting walked. This is the best league in the world. D men get walked on occasion. It happens to all of them .

And Corey Perry, former Hart and Rocket winner, has walked better players than Gudbranson

He got walked for a goal

How many D me have been walked for a goal this year? A 100?

And don't take that post as defending Gudbranson

D men get walked now and again. pure and simple.

ah yes, former hart winner. Im sure thats still relevant. Marleau is a former 44 goal scorer too, not sure how relevant that is to their play today.

Gudbranson is a defensive specialist that has been suspect most of the season. He has been slotted too high in the lineup much of the year and really shouldn't be more than a bottom pair at this stage in his career. Credit where its due, he was solid the other night though. Hope he keeps it up and i hope we keep him away from the top 4.
