The concept of a scapegoat refers to the proportion of the criticism. Engvall has not played well this year, but if we're honest about things the difference between Engvall playing well and poorly doesn't change a single result for us. He's nowhere near enough of an impact player to deserve the amount of bellyaching that he gets. People write stuff like, "we have to trade this guy" which is a laugh. What Auston Matthews eats for breakfast is more important than Pierre Engvall.

So yeah, criticize away, but IMO most people are just complaining for the sake of complaining. Always has to be something to complain about!

Hopefully he turns into a draft pick this season...A draft pick or part of a package to get us a physical 3rd liner.

Pulling for Engvall, he’s got a lot of tools you’d like in a player but just can’t seem to get to that next step. Hasn’t had a great start to the season and may need a little kick in the ass by sitting a game or two to get him going. Gets Robertson in the lineup as well.

People don’t like Engvall because he had an abundance of tools but doesn’t like using them all.

This post is delusional.

A big problem for us is depth scoring, this is a problem area we've been eyeing for years now, we have a strategy that they're tinkering with in having a 4th line being our shut down instead of our 3rd line this year.

Ragging on Engvall has nothing to do with Matthews... We aren't complaining about him having a bigger impact than Matthews.... He's depth scoring on a 3rd line, if you're not scoring on the 3rd line or generating chances you better be finishing your checks, playing hard defense or be a spark plug/pest.. instead we have a soft skater who relies on his reach. Not good enough.

He's making 2.25m which isn't chump change in this cap era... He's expected to be more than what he is.. that money was given to him for potential and so far he's shown squat and hasn't even earned that 3rd line role over the guys fighting for it in camp (Robertson, Malgin, Gaudette) if we are going to need Simmonds on the 4th (which might turn out that way), that means Engvall will also have to beat out NAK and ZAR and I'm sure those guys will be more useful with his minutes atleast in the "hard to play against" type of player.

Matthews can "eat whatever he wants for breakfast", his job is to do what he's paid for and he's proven it.. Engvall is eating plain toast and seems to be okay with that while being paid to bring more and hasn't!

35 points and PK'ing for 2.25m is a perfectly fine contract in the current cap era. Guy's been ass to start the year, I've got eyeballs too, but nobody who understands hockey players actually goes after people for five game sample sizes. If he puts up 15 points this year and barely PK's, yeah I'll write a 500 word essay about why he was a disappointment, but people getting worked up about third liners slumping at the start of the year is eyeroll inducing.

If he was remotely physical at all, he'd make more than 2.25m. That is vanilla depth player money, and Engvall scores on the higher end of that range. Clearly my little rants aren't going to stop anyone from ragging on him for being soft, but acting like a guy getting paid Zemgus Girgensons money is a disappointment five games into a season makes me laugh.
